The dog, a male shar-pei named Kai, was found sitting with a leash attached to a banister at the Ayr railway station on Jan. 2, according to the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
"Kai is around two to three years old and is a lovely dog with a nice nature," Scottish SPCA Inspector Stewart Taylor said in the group's release.
The group reported that the suitcase contained a dog bowl, food, a pillow and toy -- although that doesn't clear the owner from wrongdoing.

(9,527 posts)But on the range of stupid selfish shot people do to dogs, at least they left the dog where he would be found and with his familiar toys.
That said take the dog to a shelter.

(9,148 posts)To send him out to the world with a suitcase and a prayer that good humans take care of him is maybe a big risk.
Someone must have thought enough of him to pack his stuff however.
Wonder if people do this to their children in this world.
I will adopt Kai. I WANT HIM

(6,093 posts)I wonder if the owner could not afford to keep him, at least they did the right thing by putting him somewhere where he would be found and his little suitcase. It breaks your heart.

I hope it is a case of someone just feeling overwhelmed and exhibiting very poor judgement

(19,565 posts)I was looking for an update when I found this in the Daily Mail:
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
Anyone found guilty of doing so can be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

I hope they find the person who dumped poor Kai like that so they can be banned from owning another animal. What a cool law!

(18,497 posts)They left the dog where it would be found, and cared enough to at least leave comforting "stuff."

(18,497 posts)The dog looks well cared enough to have had regular vet care and to be possibly chipped.

(26,549 posts)Someone can be quite well off until their own financial disaster strikes. They'll still have nice luggage.
You can see people in Cadillacs driving up to a food bank. They bought the car before disaster struck, it's paid for, and isn't worth much on the used market.

(2,899 posts)Maybe at one time they could afford a nice suitcase and a dog. Who knows what happened.

(4,743 posts)Yeah, it is technically "abandonment" but whoever left him cared enough to out him someplace very public, with his bowl and toys and binkie...ooh, it's getting a little dusty in here..
