General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAs always, terrorism will empower the right/conservatives and hurt the left/liberals.
9/11 empowered our far-right to do many evil things. 1/7 may do the same in France and elsewhere in Europe.
There is some hope of avoiding this as Europe is a more liberal place in many ways than the US is, but it will be challenging. The loop of terrorism empowering the right which love to impose harsh responses which lead to repression that generates conditions that often create terrorism which leads to more harsh right-wing responses - seems to go on forever
The anti-immigrant, Islamophobic far-right in Europe will be empowered by the terrorist attack in Paris. Liberals who have been counter-demonstrating against the anti-Muslim marches will be weakened. It will be tough, but the left will have to keep fighting in support of multi-culturalism and diversity.

(6,829 posts)In general, from what I understand about how American Military Might conducts itself in other parts of the world, our MILITARY INDUSTRIAL CONGRESSIONAL SURVEILLANCE COMPLEX has given themselves a few future generations of full, increasing and lucrative employment.
Because all the people we murder in the name of fighting the war on terror have families, friends and communities. It is really like they're aggressively manufacturing generations of blow back and nobody could have predicted consequences on purpose or something?
And the people that make such decisions are doing so just to insure they own more car elevators, private jets, mansions and country club memberships. U.S. military and intelligence Terrorist extermination programs means more wealth for sociopaths that already have more money than one hundred members of the bottom 99% could spend in their lifetimes.

(7,968 posts)too many people don't bother to think and instead react purely on emotion. I wonder about long term strategy and how we could help to counter this effect?

(12,471 posts)9/11 was an inside job, whose main purpose was to instill fear in the American public. This allowed the establishment to take away civil rights, while the public was okay with it. It was also a means for the war profiteers to make money by declaring war on a country that meant no threat, and never attacked us. They knew it was coming, and chose to let it happen, so that they could accomplish these goals.
This lead to the creation of more terrorist organizations worldwide, who are going around and attacking folks everywhere.

Each empowers the other, and the rest of us suffer for it.

(24,692 posts)and statements to scare rignt-wing fundamentalists - and as many regular people as possible - in their respective countries. Right wingers are usually super-patriots, super-nationalists, super-regligionists (if that is real word). It is useful for them that that someone or some group from another nation and/or religion can be used as their foil to whip up political support.
