Pat Robertson: Bullying ‘terrible’ — but gay sex still an ‘abomination’

Pat Robertson: Bullying ‘terrible’ — but gay sex still an ‘abomination’

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/04/24/pat-robertson-bullying-terrible-but-gay-sex-still-an-abomination/

Anti-LGBT rights televangelist Pat Robertson on Tuesday told Christian students that bullying their gay and lesbian classmates was wrong even if they “think that these practices are an abomination.”

A CBN viewer named Douglas posed this question to the TV preacher: “What would you say to a school that has gay and LGBT students being bullied by the Christian kids?”

“Well I think that’s terrible and Christians shouldn’t do that,” Robertson explained. “I mean, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, blah, blah, blah. You know, Christians shouldn’t do that. They ought to act in love.”

“You might disagree, you may think that these practices are an abomination, you can think all sorts of things, but you need to love. And you need to reach out to these kids in love,” he added.

At least he is saying not to bully and to reach out to everyone with love. I don't think you can ask much more from this nutjob.

He supported the War in Iraq. Yet he calls gay sex an abomination.

War is death and maiming and destruction and hate and evil.

Sex is great fun, non?

It's a no brainer.

When Robertson selectively upholds the Levitican code (ie anti LGBT Fundies only ever use this part of the Code), that is what he is dog whistling, loud and clear.

Maybe he will calm down at least one person who was thinking of or had bullied a kid for being gay. Maybe, the message will be there somewhere in their hateful little hearts and they will at least tone it down. That would be nice, but I think it is wishful thinking. But, then on the other hand maybe if a lot of Evangelicals and Christians got together to promote a message of tolerance, the kids would get it and at least be ashamed of their behavior. One can hope anyway.

I could ask my LGBT friends what they think. But, I am pretty sure they will be mostly indifferent or like me think that this is better than nothing.

Some fundies, who desperately want some of Pat's market share, will declare him insane or even "apostate." It's not like it's a secret that he's just plain nuts, now is it. In fact, this may have been orchestrated to test and find the "preachers" who will turn on him, so his pile of money, stolen from the poor, the sick, etc over the last many years can be used to crush them.

It's not as if his tee vee show broadcast live, and this could have easily been edited out. For whatever reason or end goal, it's in there, as is his reply, which is close but not quite opposite to his usual bleating.

In any case, it was a masterful question to have asked the old gasbag.

Christian is it to not understand that GLBT is not a choice? Yes, he has softened it a little but that is still not good enough.

He is one of the sources of hatred against GLBTs that trickles down to parents and finally to kids who bully.

The fact that he even made this statement strikes me as the most crass, the most self-serving, the most brazen hypocrisy I can imagine. It turns my stomach.

Fuck him. He gets zero credit.

Did it ever occur to this peckerwood that one of the biggest reasons the bullying is occurring is because asshats like him keep howling about what an "abomination" it is?

15. Televangelist Pat Robertson just came out of the closet!

The Associated Press
Posted: 04/24/2012 6:00:47 PM PDT
Virginia Beach, VA. — In a shocking move this weekend, televangelist Pat Robertson has announced to his followers that he is in fact gay. “I hesitated coming out for a while. I thought god would strike me down if I did. Then when I finally announced the news, nothing happened. God must still love me. I encourage all of the other confused souls out there to come out with me and be your true selves. God will still love you I promise.”

and his religion's view of the LGBT community IRL.

The site it's from is satire, similar to The Onion.

From the same site:

Boston, MA. — Horner Airlines is proud to announce that it has teamed up with presidential hopeful Mitt Romney in a first of its kind ‘Work to Fly’ program. Paul Horner, president of Horner Airlines, said the program will essentially allow people to fly for free as long as they put in a few days of manual labor for Mitt Romney.

Ben Thomas, a spokesman for Horner Airlines said, “In this tough economic climate, people want to travel but just can’t afford to. Now thanks to Mitt Romney and our ‘Work to Fly’ program they can. Mitt Romney is making dreams come true.”

It is also a crock of shit! Their "acts of love" often entail "praying for gays to be cured," and "bringing them the good word." To me, that is also BULLYING!

For reference, look at the way the fundie community deals with abortion doctors: guys like Pat and Fred probably think Scott Roeder was acting in love when he killed Dr. Tiller in a sniper attack.

Pat, God and I were speaking last night...he says there's one angel whose whole job is to stand next to the Book of Life with a huge eraser and an even bigger gun, just in case someone tries to put your name in there.
