Would the oil from Canada be refined in Texas before being sold on world market?

I have heard different stories about this?

But if it is to be refined at Texas refineries, would that not replace that oil that is for domestic consumption?

And would that not drive up the price of gasoline for all Americans??

in saying that, there are refineries that are being upgraded to handle this sludge. Refined products bring big bucks in India and China while we get the pollution. One of the by products of Tar Sand Crude is Pet-Coke which no one wants to use. Nasty stuff very toxic.

I don't think it would replace oil meant for domestic consumption.

The oil would then go onto the world market. Our gas prices would not be affected. Gasoline is refined at many places.

when refineries operated at about 80%?

I don't know if refineries are now operating at full capacity. However, if they are close to full capacity, and they swapped the present capacity to accommodate the "world market", then it might be a matter of supply and demand?

I don't even know if the tar sands crude will be made into gasoline. Somehow I doubt it.

I really have no answers.

The one thing I do know is that the crap should not be flowing across our country to Texas. It's horrible stuff and refining it will not benefit us at all.

Edmonton and Calgary Refineries do process this stuff into Gasoline and Diesel. BTW,lots of the Waxy Crude and Tar Sand Crude from Utah is Railed to these Refineries until the Salt Lake City four Refineries are up to speed to handle this stuff. If you want a real read on the ownership of the Salt Lake City Refineries just Google the companies.

I wonder if the equipment and facilities are different for refining this crap vs refining "normal" oil?

Currently some of the tar sands are being sent to refineries in the Midwest and the final product is being sold locally, helping the economy. Refining it in Texas and shipping the product overseas will hurt the US Economy by costing jobs in the Midwest
