They never learn. Both experience and my vet say that dogs are repeat offenders with those two animals. You'd think they'd learn from the first experience with them, but noooo, they like going back to the scene of the crime over and over again. Possums are relatively safe and they aren't often carriers of rabies. The poor things are fair game for dogs.

$70 vet visit for his scratches.

We have to pound on the sliding door after dark to give anything that might be in the fenced yard looking for food under the bird feeders time to leave.

Also known by the name of DUMBASS!

Skunked 3 times, just outside the front door.

The last time ended in a cold bath, in the driveway at 4:45AM.

FYI, my cleaning formula of choice:

Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and a few drops of Dawn. The goal is to chemically change the odor elements and then have the Dawn break up the oil of the spray.

The best remedy is tomato paste rubbed in to the fur. This is superior to the classic treatment of tomato juice. Rinse with cold water to impress the animal that its conduct was unacceptable. (Note: This treatment was recommended by my grandfather, a Deputy State Veterinarian in Missouri.)

At the time I was a park caretaker. So in winter I was often called out at night to plow snow. I was required to live in a park in a bad neighborhood. I wanted a big dog to protect Marta when I was away. There never was a problem btw.

Anyway we had two big dogs when we got Luka. That was November 2003. In just a few days Marta caught me calling him my little pride and joy. OOPS!

We have two rat terriers of about 15 pounds each. Dug is a mixed terrier and is 25 pounds.

Our family had dogs and cats while I was growing up. Mostly cocker spaniels, a couple of terriers, and I had a black Lab mix.

Between the cockers 'puppy dog eyes' and the terriers 'soulful eyes' I don't know who got away with more.

And so smart and protective.

Good memories.
