Derp Letters to the Plain Dealer, Volume 6,000 . . . is this REALLY Northeast Ohio?

http://blog.cleveland.com/letters/index.html

Sadly, yes it is . . . the less people learn . . .

The "Buffett rule" is a political scheme aimed at raising taxes on the rich. President Barack Obama tells us it's time they started paying their fair share. Here are a couple of facts he fails to mention:

This rule would collect an additional $47 billion over the next 10 years. That amount would pay for 17 days of the Obama 10-year deficit. And if the president insists on talking about fairness, how does he explain the fact that the top 10 percent of American earners pay 71 percent of the federal income tax, while 49 percent of American households pay no federal income tax at all?

Obama's behavior has been shameless, and it's designed to deceive the voters and divert attention from his failed presidency. He continues to prove he lacks the character needed for his current job.

This November, Americans have an important decision to make: Do we allow this president another four years to complete his destructive transformation of America, or do we reclaim our country and begin healing the wounds inflicted over the last three years?

Liberals have never learned that it's not the government that makes America exceptional, it's the people.

Jeff Longo, North Royalton

Jeff, by the way, is one of those writers who should really have his own column, since his letters seem to make it in at least bi-weekly . . . for some reason . . .

I mean, never mind, Jeff, that your 47 billion figure is bullshit, or that the wealthiest 10% of Americans own 71% of the WEALTH in this country and never mind your "49%" talking point's been debunked from here to Madagascar. The Bewsh tax cuts to the rich have already cost this country 2 TRILLION dollars and there wouldn't have BEEN a huge debt had your asswipe president not DOUBLED it. Dumbass.

It's about making them pay their fair share, which they arguably have not been doing for the past 30 years, and you see what giving the wealthy free money has done for this country's prosperity . . . oh wait, sorry, you don't. Put the blindfold back on and continue to watch Eric Bolling, smart guy.

Here's yet another pearl of wisdom . . . Jesus . . .

When are people going to start looking beyond the sound bites? This president loves to pit classes of people against each other.

The top 1 percent of taxpayers pay approximately 36 percent of all taxes, and the top 10 percent pay 70 percent. Nearly half of Americans pay no income taxes. Everyone pays payroll taxes, but those taxes go toward Medicare and Social Security. Those are not income taxes.

The so-called rich (millionaires and billionaires) are taxed at a low 15 percent on their capital gains, but they already paid an approximate 28 percent tax rate on that money when it was initially earned. This is the part that your president fails to explain to Americans.

This is a smoke screen, people. Everyone in this country has the same opportunity to be successful -- and to be a millionaire. It's up to the individual to decide whether or not to do the hard work of becoming one. Ask yourself why President Obama wants you to hate millionaires and billionaires.

Vincent Picone, Ravenna

Wow . . . the TeaHad is conditioned well . . . "Everyone in this country has the same opportunity to be successful" . . . PFFFFFFFFFFT. If anyone still believes that line of horse manure, someone needs to get out of Ravenna and into a Cleveland tenement for a day, and it's not me.

Vince, Mittens and the rest of his wealthy buddies are taxed at 15% ONLY. Where the shit did you get this 28% figure? Mitt is RETIRED. He only pays tax on what his income from his wealth generates, which is a flat 15%. NO more. And Mitt is worth a quarter billion dollars, which he made by firing people, torching and indebting companies and pocketing the profits. So the amount of tax dollars he took OUT of the economy by firing those workers and bankrupting those companies negates his past . . . "fair share" .

DUMBasses. GOD almighty, I'm sick of this crap. We need to restore the Fairness Doctrine; then and only then will this country not have the bunch of drooling morons that pick up a set of crayons without thinking.

occassionally. It's usually the same letter.

I must say the puke writing team knows how to push an agenda, over and over and over and over.

Of course the other side gets a rebuttal in 4 days later but by then the average readers attention span has

been diverted to who won dancing with scars.

Guaranteed all of the rebuttals won't appear until either Saturday or Sunday.

Longo has replaced the ancient Teahadist William Reale as the "LTTE Columnist" for the PD. Does your paper usually get the same names writing in over and over again, as if we won't remember? I've sent in 8 LTTEs and only ONE of them got published. It's a losing cause with that bought-and-paid-for rag.

under President Obama the rich have gotten even richer because the tax policies are exactly the same as they were under Bush. So I guess I would have to agree with that statement, though the writer never would agree with me.

Never mind Ted Strickland had the same economy that 49 other states did. Not really much he could have done about that. But hey, the solution HAS to be putting in a Wall $treeter to replace him. How's THAT working out for us?

Yeah, and Longo must be one of those ten letter-a-day type of idiots with nothing better to do. He is always published.

Good thing that what they do is ineffective. Letters to the editor (for the most part) are just background noise from cranks, Teabaggers, racists, and morons anymore.

I don't see one opinion or vote getting changed by the ineffectual rantings of people that just make up 'facts' on the spot.

All they have to do is go online, download one, and sign their names to it. This is the same garbage I see in the papers here. It's not quite verbatim, but close. And, quite often, it's the same handful of morons here, too. The sad thing is, one of the papers here HAS given one of them a semi-regular column, probably because she claims to be a retired "writer". But, to their credit, they counter it with a column by a retired Democratic congressman the next day.

Not only do we need to restore the Fairness Doctrine, we need to start teaching critical thinking in school at an early age. I can't believe how many people are completely lacking in such skills.

It's an Evening Post rag. They own several papers in the Carolinas, including the Charleston Post and Courier. They also own several TV stations around the country, about half of which are in Montana.

The real appalling thing is that some people here think this blatantly right-wing rag is "liberal". They occasionally will print political cartoons or columns that are slightly critical of the GOP. Last week they printed two in a row, and some twit wrote in complaining that the paper was becoming "leftist". Another kook wrote in the other day, asking them to drop their weekly column by Leonard Pitts, because he's too "divisive". Leonard Pitts. I shit you not. These are the same shitstains who will write in claiming that "Liberals are narrow-minded and won't listen to other peoples' views."

I've gone to the Indy Star and it happens there as well.

The liberals need to manage the message so that the tea baggers are drowned out.

Progressives realize America cannot afford to move any further with failed Trickle Down that's been a plague on this nation's progress for decades. These idiots want to promote this crap agenda until America heads glacially into it's inevitable starved and impoverished death.

I think it's because they refuse to listen to anyone that will tell them that they're not going to be part of the 1% . . . EVER . . . and the 1% left them behind a long time ago. They refuse to believe that and continue to remain high on their balloon juice.

These letters are indicative of the typical "all-or-nothing" mentality of many on the right. Since raising taxes on the wealthy won't solve all of the debt and budgetary problems in one fell swoop, then it shouldn't be done.
