And I think his future is very bright does he have the experience to be VP and step in as President if need be? When I think of Biden and Gore's resumes I wonder.

I think thats why he's running. He must know that theres no way he could win the nomination; he's too conservative for the liberal base. But he'd be perfect in the general election.

As an idiom it refers to a generally negative event, but entirely predictable.

People say Castro is too inexperienced, etc, but he's being groomed in the executive branch and will have broad appeal.

Castro needs broader experience, but he may one day be a good national candidate. He needs to be more than a mayor.

The practical and liberal side of the party want someone like Julian to have a shot, and if it means putting up with 8 years of Clinton, that's fine. By then he'd be very powerful and probably unbeatable.

Importantly, the rising star of the party tends to speak at the previous DNC, Obama spoke at the 2004 DNC and was the keynote speaker. Julian spoke at the 2012 DNC and was the keynote speaker (though Clinton kind of stole the show with his absolutely brilliant real time rewrite of his speech, unfortunately).

For the party they keynote speaker has a lot of potential, and the party tends to support that person behind the scenes.

Don't underestimate Julian Castro's ability to speak. He would obliterate any candidate the Republicans provide at the debates. Even more, he gets to show his Texas cred, and no Republican wins, or rather, it's damn near impossible for a Republican to win, without Texas. And yes, with the Latin American and Women vote, Texas becomes a potential win (remember, Clinton won Texas in the 2008 primaries).

Funnily, more evidence that he's running? He says "we'll see what happens" and "there's no grand plan."

Trying to subvert the very idea that in backroom discussions, he's at the top of lists (no, I doubt he knows that he's on the lists, and the lists probably aren't even on paper but the general trajectory is in the minds and private discussions of top Democratic leaders).

Everyone assumes Clinton is running and it's very likely. Who will be her running mate and why?

Very few want Clinton here. I don't want her but she'd be easy to stomach, plus the entertainment and drama that follow would be fun...

I know the party has big plans for him, but is three terms as a mayor and about 18 months by that time as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development enough to be VP? If it is, then I won't stand in his way, I like what I've seen from both him and his brother so far.
