http://www.businessinsider.com/al-sharpton-blasts-appalling-oscars-2015-1Sharpton, a critic of the lack of diversity in Hollywood, also announced he was holding an "emergency meeting" next week to address the issue.
"I have called an emergency meeting early next week in Hollywood with the task force to discuss possible action around the Academy Awards," he said.
Said Sharpton: "The lack of diversity in today's Oscar nominations is appalling and while it is good that Selma was nominated for 'Best Picture,' it's ironic that they nominated a story about the racial shutout around voting while there is a racial shutout around the Oscar nominations. With all of the talent in Selma and other Black movies this year, it is hard to believe that we have less diversity in the nominations today than in recent history."

(6,719 posts)94% caucasian and 77% male does not reflect the acting community, does not reflect the viewing audience. Maybe it is time for the 'academy' to open the voting. But, of course, they they could not control the outcomes. I suggest we 1) refuse to watch the show of announcements, and 2) pick one of their cherished movies and refuse to go. The 'academy' sees itself as all powerful and all knowing. With out us buying tickets, they are all zero!

(7,759 posts)some years there aren't. I haven't seen all the films but I did see Selma. I thought the acting was very good but not necessarily Oscar nominating.
