He is the master of a new art form-Emergency Revisionist History. Please make note that honest people generally stick to their stories and don't massage the facts on an ongoing basis to meet the legal or ethical questions the truth may present. How many different stories about when he first learned of the GWB lane closures? (at least three that I can put my finger on). Did you know David Wildstein in high school or was he just some anonymous photo-bombing "nerd" in the baseball picture in the Livingston High yearbook? Pension management, property taxes, Sandy funds, the Port Authority, David Sampson, Hoboken-Christie's got a new story for all of them whenever the truth becomes dangerous or his old story inconvenient. Just make up a new story that keeps you out of trouble-don't worry, nobody will remember the old one.
Last night Chris Christie told his audience on the weekly Ask The Governor radio show that he and Jerry Jones didn't meet until September 2013 and that's when they immediately became good friends-got it!
Jerry Jones and I first met in September of 2013, Christie said on his monthly radio call-in show on New Jersey 101.5. He added that by his recollection, he only first spoke to Jones on the phone in the summer of 2013.
The governor said the men connected only after a mutual friend called him to say that Jones understood Christie was a fan of the Cowboys, and wanted his cell phone number. Christie gave his friend the number, and shortly after Jones called.
We were at the beach house one weekend, and I got a call from Jerry Jones, Christie said.
But, on December 22-only a couple of weeks ago-he told NJTV host Steve Adubato they had been friends much longer:
Christie offered that he'd been a Cowboys fan since he was 9 years old, and always would be, before adding: "Ive become friends with Jerry over the last five years -"
Adubato, looking a bit surprised, remarked on how Christie said he was on a first-name basis with Jones, saying, "Jerry?"
"Yeah. 'Jerry,'" responded Christie, "He allows me to call him Jerry. I dont call him, Mr. Jones. I call him Jerry. And Ive become friends with Jerry over the last five years. And you know, we were together at the game together in Philadelphia two weeks ago. And then Mary Pat, myself and the children all went down to Dallas this weekend, and we went to the game yesterday [December 21]."
What changed in the past couple of weeks? Well, what everybody knows, that's what. And the facts call for some historical revisions. You see on December 22 he was only defending his Cowboy fandom. Way back then (3 weeks is ancient history with this guy) he and Jerry were old friends-going back 5 years or so- sharing a love for his favorite team. Then folks started to think, what was this guy doing in Jones' private jet, in the owner's box, taking expensive gifts-and didn't Jones get a lucrative Port Authority contract? In the famous words of Scooby Doo-ruh-ro!
So we get the carefully crafted new story-they've been friends (so the gift is O.K.) but just long enough that they weren't friends when the Port Authority contract was awarded in March 2013. Boy, you've only known Jerry a little more than a year and he's already flying your family around on a private jet! You must really be a good guy Mr. Governor to make fast friends that quickly. So here's Christie, trying to thread the needle, just like Romo trying to fit one in between the deep safety and a cornerback.
I hope somebody's paying attention down at the U.S. Attorney's office. Paging Mr. Fishman, Paging Mr. Fishman, we have another made up story! This is basic Impeachment of a Witness' Credibility 101! Do I really have to do your jobs for you? If so, I believe I'm due beer and travel money.

(2,419 posts)but there really isn't a better analogy. I'm sure somebody could produce some kind of Photoshopped picture that comports with the title and would take away all imagination and really give you nightmares!

(8,275 posts)luck of the GOP. Your two examples are clearly quotes from the Gov., but who hears besides us?
His blatant and in-your-face "I'll be here next year" accompanied with cocked shoulder and head bob, repeated a second time....means what? Over confidence? The fix is in?
My fear is that January will come and go, and we will hear nothing from the Feds. I would love to be wrong.

(2,419 posts)with the short attention span of the press corps (such as it is) as I am about the fix being in with the U.S. Attorney's office. That's a real possibility. They generally don't go after one of their own and Christie, no doubt, still has connections from his years in that same office. They also don't like to prosecute cases that aren't gift wrapped and tied up with a bow. I share your fear that he will skate on some of the really bad things he's done. Another thing, the worst of his actions aren't really criminal-they're public policy disasters that NJ will be paying for in years to come. Transportation, education, budgeting, the environment, Sandy recovery-if being inept were a crime he'd be doing life.

(8,275 posts)his inept handling of Sandy, still think he is da bomb? Low information voting is an epidemic that needs to be stamped out.

(273 posts)somewhere between graft and bribery. Jerry's been my buddy long enough to fly my family around on his private jet but not long enough that I pushed for his contract or anything. You all believe that, don't you?

(5,624 posts)I mean Chris Crisco literally is a slippery greased pig. There is no need for simile here.

(273 posts)It's not looking like that's going to happen here.

(2,419 posts)It's amazing, there's usually a hard core of Christie supporters trolling the comment section at NJ.Com. They're nowhere to be found on this one. It's a hard one to defend. I live in the Christie homeland where the locals worship him. Even his real friends are saying he screwed up on this one. (of course they're willing to let him slide on it) It's got to be sinking in to people who even pay marginal attention that he's got more stories than the Naked City.

(4,220 posts)And yes, "there are 8 million stories in the Naked City"
Which is on once a week on KVME, the ME network, which I get on DISH network.
Oh and BTW, DISH and FAUX News have apparently made up, its back up on DISH...

(44,576 posts)Ever heard of telephones? Or web conferencing? Or corresponding by postal or electronic mail?
The bottom line is that in March 2013, Jones got a deal with the Port Authority to run the observation deck of the World Trade Center, rendering him ineligible to render any gifts to any New Jersey public officials. Is Christie having ANOTHER attack of personnel amnesia? It would be one thing for Christie to deny that he helped make the deal happen. But since he and NY governor Cuomo issued a joint press release about the Jones/PA deal, it's hard to believe he didn't know about it!

(2,419 posts)that's not fair! When the facts don't fit-make up a new story and ignore everything that might be troublesome.
