Unaware that terrorists had just massacred people in Paris, Greta Morris of Omaha was about to hop on the Metro subway and head for the Cathedral of Notre Dame — blocks from the Charlie Hebdo magazine offices.

But her college professors in the U.S. “bombarded” Greta and fellow students with text messages, urging them — ordering them — to return to their apartment right away. They ran back.

Greta Morris is in Paris as part of Miami University's "Cultural Capital" study abroad program.

The next day she attended a peace protest. And on Sunday she joined throngs at the peace march that’s been called France’s biggest outpouring of solidarity since the end of World War II.

“People were hanging out their windows watching and cheering to the crowd,” Greta said. “French flags were waving in the air, and everyone had a ‘Je suis Charlie’ sign. Everyone around was speaking different languages, but for that day we were all French.”
