Obama's approval rating has IMPROVED since last Sunday

I was curious and looked at the polling numbers in the Gallup tracking poll. Given that the media spent all of Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday seeming to position this as a very important thing that Obama completely blew, you would expect his numbers to have sunk noticeably - at least temporarily.

http://pollingreport.com/obama_job1.htm

The 4 most recent data points here ( approval - 46, 46, 47, 46 and disapproval all 48) for the tracking polls that include at least one day 1/11 or later are higher than the preceding three days - where his approval was at 44 and disapproval was at 50 or 49. Gallup.com itself has a more recent day - January 13-15 and his approval is UP and at 48, with disapproval at 47.

So, I conclude that the American people are NOT disappointed in Obama -- the US media is!

As to the meme that this has harmed our relationship with France - something Secretary Kerry argued was not the case last week angering Fox News for saying that - consider that today, the French government officials greeted Secretary of Kerry as warmly as he greeted them.

If the French government itself thought they were snubbed, I seriously doubt the French PRESIDENT would have walked out to greet the US SECRETARY of STATE. In fact, if that were the case, I would guess that even the French foreign minister would have not had a public appearance with Kerry. France did not have to have its leaders join Kerry if they thought this was just for US consumption to get Obama off the hook.

I doubt anyone would suggest that the French - of all people - could not in an exquisitely polite manner turn a cold shoulder to an ally that they need, but are not happy with.

So, we have spent the last half a week reacting to media overload - with most left wing sources jumping in to join the mainstream - when it looks like NEITHER the French government nor the American people are really upset over the US representation.

Not if the POTUS is popular enough to be homecoming king or queen.

The issue was whether Obama was weaken by not sending a high ranking person to the march.

The answer you would assume from the media and the right leaning intelligensia is that this was catastrophic.

In fact - as I showed:

Approval of Obama as President (NOT FAVORABILITY which would be the "prom King" measure) is UP. Noteworthy ONLY because it shows the media failed to really make this an issue that negatively changed people's opinions.

Our relationship with France is not at all impaired. There are a few French citizens who post here -- they might be able to comment on the French relationship with Obama vs with Bush. I think you know the truth.

As to results, what results are you looking for?

If one really cares about the nonsense shouted out daily by the RW and one feels they have to defend the POTUS, one is not really paying attending to what is going on, one is being distracted by the noise and shiny objects.

- and No, I do not intend to defend myself on that.

I never saw any danger to the French/American relationship which is stronger than it has been in more than a decade. Obama's and Kerry's early comments AND the substantive assistance given was far more meaningful.

The numbers DO actually reflect something. I presume you are old enough to remember how much more ineffectual GWB became when his numbers fell into the low 30s. You might even remember that McCain tried to run using rhetoric that labeled himself as a change from Bush.

The numbers themselves are the best quantification we have for whether President Obama has support. At the current level, if the election were soon, you should not see BOTH candidates running from Obama. The higher Obama's support remains, the better chances are for ANY Democrat who runs in 2016.
