San Mateo police hit pit bulls with car to stop rampage

http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/San-Mateo-police-hit-pit-bulls-with-car-to-stop-6031404.php

One dog was killed by police and another was captured after the animals went on a rampage in San Mateo on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Just after 9:30 a.m., officers received a call from a “frantic” male caller saying he had been attacked and nearly bitten by large, aggressive pit bulls on the 600 block of Woodside Way, just a few blocks from San Mateo High School, police said.

As officers were en route, three more people called to report the dogs were chasing people, including a city sanitation worker, around the neighborhood. The first officer on the scene saw the dogs — both between 55 and 70 pounds, according to police — and followed them until they ran into a yard and attacked a landscaper, who was forced to defend himself with a leaf blower he was using as the dogs repeatedly bit at the device, police said.

Fearing for the landscaper, the officer used an air horn to divert the dogs’ attention; they then began biting and clawing at the driver’s side door of his patrol vehicle. After abandoning the vehicle, the dogs ran south toward the high school and police dispatchers alerted officials there to keep everyone inside, police said.

and had to choke it down to get it off my pet. When not too far in the past they played together. A pit can be the nicest dog there is but they turn mean on a moments notice, seems to me like. I wasn't going to let it kill my dog so I got it between my legs while it had my dog by the back of its neck shaking for all it had in its body. my well placed fingers on the juggler veins were more than it could take and it dropped our pet. I should have kept on until it was dead but I had some heart in me and didn't. Now I have to be very watchful when my pet is outside because that dog wants to kill her if it gets a chance. I won't make that mistake again. Next time it will be dead meat.

Oh the pit, when its in its yard its very aggressive towards me but when its out of its protective fence it takes a wide circle around me keeping an eye on me until its out of sight. I'm not afraid of anything and especially a dog trying to do my pet harm. Our pet was at least 12-14 years old when this happened and is going on 17 now and not doing too well anymore. Like me getting old. We have a deal I protect her while she watches out for me and its been that way since day one.

I posted about this the day it happened and for the life of me can't remember how long ago its been

Unbelievable. It's not a popular opinion with some, but they aren't just ordinary dogs, not practically speaking. Whatever policy is ethical or feasible, it isn't right to promote them or the idea that they're just like any other dog. I think that actually hurts more than it helps, because I think people who do have them should understand the danger, and the idea that anyone has these animals and doesn't realize that scares the shit out of me and makes me more inclined to support a ban.
