http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/marty-warren/crown-beer-cans_b_6507032.htmlThese 120 workers have endured a level of hardship and malice from their employer that they could not have anticipated nearly two years ago as they prepared to negotiate a new collective agreement.
U.S.-based Crown had just given its Toronto employees a corporate award for operating the most productive and safest plant in its North American manufacturing empire. Crown almost doubled its profits in 2012, results for which the corporation's CEO enjoyed a $12-million annual compensation package -- getting paid more for two days' work than his highly productive Toronto employees were earning over an entire year....
Crown forced its award-winning employees, including many long-serving and second- and third-generation workers, onto the horns of a dilemma. They could continue working and accept Crown's draconian demands, including a two-tier, low-wage workplace that would eradicate decent jobs for young people. Or, at great personal sacrifice, they could take to the picket line and stand up for the next generation.
Bottled is better anyway.

(11,417 posts)I do beach clean ups with a group a couple times a year. Each year the number of beer bottles seem to increase and the cans decrease. Also we are picking up more wine bottles. I think the beer bottles are from micro brews. I guess we are getting a better class of beach drinkers. Use to be just a bunch of Bud cans and such.

(2,169 posts)In December, BBC Panorama aired an expose about the workers that make those products. The US media doesn't have the courage or the honesty to do such a thing. Does Crown have suicide nets surrounding the building?
BBC Panorama secret filming inside Apple factory
Watch undercover filming at an Apple factory in Shanghai showing exhausted workers
The BBC's Panorama programme sent undercover reporters to Apple's Pegatron factories on the outskirts of Shanghai, where it claims to have uncovered poor treatment of workers and a breach of standards on workers' hours.
The BBC report, broadcast on Thursday, alleged that workers fell asleep during 12 hour shifts on the iPhone 6 production line and were made to work 18 days in a row after repeatedly being denied requests for a day off...

A BBC investigation for Panorama has exposed poor working conditions at factories making Apple products in China. The undercover team secretly filmed the iPhone production line and found Apples promises to protect workers were routinely broken. One undercover reporter making parts for Apple computers had to work eighteen days without a day off. Other workers were filmed falling asleep. Apple say they will investigate any concerns brought to them. Richard Bilton reports.

There used to be a Crown Packaging on the south side of Chicago. I forget exactly where. Might still be there.
