Great Sunday afternoon.
Then again I could boycott it as some suggest and read the new book "10 ways to boycott everything and be uber-cool".
Nah....

(16,110 posts)I've just never been interested in football.
Sadly, it has impacted my two older boys socially as they have little to converse with other boys about, since their interest is not in the sport everyone else in their school is obsessed with.
Enjoy the game!

I haven't missed a Super Bowl in 30 years. Why start now??
But I will still watch the Puppy Bowl. Just love those little guys. And NBC will air 6 hours of nonsense before the game even starts!!

(13,340 posts)I don't understand the obsession with watching milliionaires in pretend teams "representing" cities play a violent game that enriches billionaires.
But have fun!

(41,692 posts)Why is it an obsession? What do you like to do? let me guess--- Museum? Theater? Music? Reading Tolstoy over and over?
You must like something? Tell me what it is and I'll be sure to label it an obsession.
I like sports--- I like the sport of American Football. I like eating Chicken Wings, good beer while I watch the sport.
Is it an obsession--- I don't know? Is doing what you do an obsession---I don't know?
Oh---and sorry you don't watch Movies on the big screen or at home--- those actor millionaires must really mess it up for you.

(13,340 posts)I have my own obsessions to be sure!
I DO think the NFL is a problem. Cities socialize investments into massive stadiums to enrich private parties. Hundreds and thousands of young men experience permanent brain injuries in their quest to catch that shiny brass ring of fame and fortune.
Oh, and let's not forget... the NFL is a non-profit "professional organization." Yeah, right!
I don't have a problem with people getting rich. I do have a problem with people getting rich with taxpayer help.

I'll be joining you. I've watched every game starting in '67, and see no reason to stop now.

(39,374 posts)Helluva game.
Just so you know, it's possible to have known and loved football and move on once you're familiar with what it does to the people who play it. And this decision does not preclude the enjoyment of many other sports that do not resemble a series of staged human car accidents.
