GOP Leaders: Obama Economy Has Only Improved For The Rich
On Sunday, the two most powerful Republicans in Congress offered the party's response to recent economic gains: only the rich are benefiting in President Barack Obama's economy while middle income Americans are worse off.
In a joint appearance on CBS' "60 Minutes," House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) were asked if they congratulate Obama for falling unemployment, dropping gas prices and a booming stock market.
Both sought to refashion the GOP as the party of mitigating income inequality.
"Look, things are getting better. But the point is, who is benefiting from this? This has been a top of the income recovery. The so-called 1 percent that the president is always talking about have done quite well," McConnell said. "But middle and lower income Americans are about $3,000-a-year worse off than they were when he came into office."
Boehner said income inequality an issue that progressive advocates, Democratic lawmakers and Obama have increasingly highlighted recent years is something Republicans want to tackle.

(1,596 posts)They are giving airtime to these fucking liars, they are campaigning for the Republicans. 60 minutes used to be a decent show years ago, but now they are just a platform for the Bagginglicans to spout their lies. How disgusting, and frightening.
I think our real enemy is big media and I am hoping that one of the candidates for '16 will touch on this. Very unlikely as that could be a death blow to that candidate. It's almost a no win situation as it stands now. But, I swear, it is the media, the snake belly slitherine that is fucking everything up for us. Fix the media and fixing anything else is possible.
Where to start. What to do. Thisis so upsetting. I knew it was this way for a long time now, but this story just takes the cake.

(30,481 posts)The argument can and will be made that Democrats fight for the rich, not for the poor. Because one party simply says fuck the poor by its actions doesn't mean arguments can't be made by said party. Shit. There are ops here everyday talking about Obama being a tool for the one percent. What Boehner is doing is an act of hypocrisy and deceit. But the arguments has been handed to him on a silver platter. There needs to be a greater difference between the two parties when it comes to fiscal and social matters. People don't get why I get so upset when this president talks about "shared sacrifice" and "Everybodys going to have to give. Everybodys going to have to have some skin in the game" when talking about SS and Medicare. That verbiage gives all those listening or reading and understanding that the republicans concerns over these programs are real and the only solutions are cuts or everybody pays more.

(25,253 posts)If they are trying to move to the left now by claiming that they are for the middle class and poor - while all the time they have done everything in their power to hurt the middle class and the poor and pad the pockets of the rich --- well ---- call them on it and push them farther to the left. Call for raising taxes on the rich and reducing taxes on the middle class and poor. Push them with raising the minimum wage. Push them with equal pay for women. Push them with raising the cap on social security. Push them hard in every way possible to make them put their money where their mouth is when they say that Obama is for the rich and they are for fighting for the middle class and poor.
Eventually - we'll see their real stripes here. That's its all rhetoric with no substance.
Push them so hard that it will make them hurt and regret ever going on 60 Minutes and re-fashioning the Repugs as the party of mitigating income inequality.
My guess is that we'll see what they are really made of if we keep that pressure up on them.

(21,475 posts)He has already requested a middle class tax cut and an increase in taxes for the very wealthy and both of those Republicans said it was dead on arrival. So their talk does not equal their actions..And nobody bothered to ask about this very immediate contradiction?????? Real savvy Media we have in this country, that's for sure..

(6,363 posts)As someone said elsewhere - straight out of Propaganda 101. Keep saying it over and over and over. With a loud enough microphone some meaningful percentage of the population will accept it as truth just because they're too f'ing dumb (and/or lazy) to get off their butts and realize it's all a lie.
Nobody ever lost a dime betting on the stupidity of the population and that's what they're banking on. Life's got to be tough when your only strategy is to hope people are too dumb to see the truth.
