White House drone belongs to government employee flying it for fun: report
Published: Jan 26, 2015 2:06 p.m. ET
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The small drone that crashed at the White House complex early Monday morning belonged to a government employee flying it for fun, according to a report by the New York Times. The employee - who did not work for the White House - has told the Secret Service that he was flying the drone at 3 a.m. when he lost control of it and that he did not mean to fly it over the fence of the president's residence. So far, the Secret Service said it believed the man's account, the report said. The Secret Service said in an earlier statement that one of its officers posted on the South Ground of the White House heard and observed a "quad copter" device flying at very low altitude and ultimately crashing on the southeast side of the complex.

(16,230 posts)Lots of hobbyists have quad copters. I was given a small one for Christmas.
Not that we can tolerate such things entering the grounds of the White House. I'm guessing that they'll create some sort of no-fly zone for hobbyists around government facilities. Maybe they could even jam the radio control frequencies.

(25,252 posts)wasn't there another incident on the WH grounds - a man going over the fence and entering the WH.
Just seems a little coinkydinky to me that this incident happens when the President is out of the country.
Could it be that somebody is trying to test the Secret Service that guards the WH? Just a thought.
