I found Precious sitting in the middle of a busy intersection. I have learned through many rescues that if I turn around to come back, the dog has always disappeared. So I immediately got out of my car and stopped traffic to get her out of harms way.
I coached Precious out of the intersection and to a nearby empty lot. She would not let me get near her and took off across the empty lot. So, I returned to my car and circled around to get back to the other side of the lot that emptied into a neighborhood. I found her sitting on the sidewalk. I had food and water in my car and got out and put it on the sidewalk close to her and then returned to my car. I sat and watched her as starvation and dehydration drove her to the pile of food and bowl of water. She was so emaciated.
She lowered her head and allowed me to put a slip leash on her
Precious 2I let her eat and drink a little and decided if I did not catch her she would not last another day. As I approached her, she lowered her head and allowed me to put a slip leash on her. I also had a blanket that I immediately wrapped around her so I could pick her up and put her in my car. She was just skin and bones.

WARNING: Sugar-free Jell-O is Deadly
Although Precious received some hydration from regular Jell-O, your dog could be in danger from this product. Sugar-free varieties of Jell-O contain xylitol, which is more deadly to dogs than chocolate. Dogs metabolize xylitol differently than humans and will suffer a massive crash in blood sugar within minutes. If you suspect your dog has eaten even a tiny amount of sugar-free sweets (gum, pastry, candy) containing xylitol, you should immediately visit the nearest veterinarian. Even a few pieces of sugar-free chewing gum could quickly become fatal, so always keep these foods entirely out-of-reach for pets.
