Officials: Second Nebraska measles deemed false alarm

FREMONT, NEB. — Health officials say a case of measles previously confirmed in Nebraska has turned out to be a false alarm.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/1DoiCvC ) the Lancaster County child diagnosed with measles has been cleared following a third test. A news release issued Thursday said the 5-year-old was the second measles case in the state.

According to a report on the case, the boy's symptoms and two initial tests led to his measles diagnosis. Because the boy had received the first vaccination dose and had no contact with another known measles case, a third test was conducted. The test didn't confirm previous results.

Officials say other illnesses have similar rash and fever symptoms, and reactions to medications prove similar as well.
