Readers reacted with indignation at my report that the company with the worst customer service scores in America would have employees who hated their customers enough to put it in writing.
All the while, the cable TV giant has implied this was a single action of a disgruntled employee they would soon terminate.
But that may not be entirely accurate.
Over the last few days, I've been contacted by several Comcast customers who claim the same thing has happened to them. One customer says a Comcast employee changed his name to the phonetic spelling of a profanity that is unprintable in a family newspaper. Another says Comcast changed her name to "whore" and another says her name became "dummy."

(30,813 posts)Who would even think of this? "Gee, that customer was really annoying on the phone. I think I'll go into her account and change her name to 'whore'."

(8,173 posts)I ever had. I didn't meet a single person who liked their job, even the supervisors who were supposed to help new employees were miserable.
Not making any excuses for employees being nasty and changing names, just saying it does not surprise me one bit.

(16,846 posts)for a long time knows about burnout. It can make a nice person mean as hell, especially if the person is treated poorly by their employer. I was in the service industry for 20 years, and I'll never go back. Not making excuses for Comcast, but I do understand.

(28,208 posts)Perhaps Comcast employees should insist that their Offshore employees use their real names.
When I had Comcast, I would call and get folks from India answering the call. They would identify themselves as Robert or Heather. I would ask them what their real names would be and they would say Pankaj or Jayashri. Then, they would say how they were to give 'American' names to sound more appealing to US customers.
I guess they don't want folks to know how much of their support staff is Non-US.
