UK anti-Semitism hit record level in 2014, report says

A report by the trust, which provides security for Britain's Jewish community and monitors anti-Semitism, said the number of incidents had more than doubled to 1,168 in 2014.

It is the highest figure since the trust began monitoring in 1984.

"Anti-Semitic reactions to the conflict in Israel and Gaza" were the biggest factor behind the rise, the trust said.

---snip---

Hitler 'right'

For instance, in Manchester in November a 12-year-old girl was walking along the street when someone in a passing car shouted anti-Semitic abuse at her.

The report noted 233 cases of abuse or threats on social media last year, compared to 88 in 2013.

An image of Hitler, with the caption "Yes man, you were right" was widely shared over the summer.

Another image, put out on Twitter in December, showed a dining table with nooses hanging over every chair.

The caption read: "Preparing for dinner with some Jews."

And the beat goes on....

One of the most disturbing parts of that article is that kids are having to go through drills to be prepared for armed intruders in their schools. What has this world come to? Didn't we learn anything from the camps and ovens?

The assholes who perpetuate this hatred aren't even human.

Of course, there were those who didn't think it was anti-Semitism. Perhaps they will see the same here.

"Didn't we learn anything from the camps and ovens? "

Debatable. It is a no-no to do it on a massive scale; the world will shake its head and wag their fingers, but likely, little will be done in regards to the smaller versions.

It is amazing how they rationalize the bigotry against Jews. Any wonder anti-Semitism is seeing a resurgence?

Behind the Aegis

It is so horrible when people doesn't learn from the pasts horrible acts - when it came to killing people who had not doing any wrong - but who was killed, by the thousands - in fact millions of people was murdered - because they was who they was - not because they did something wrong - or was criminals - or other vice had doing something wrong...

It is a shame - a horrible shame when people is so ignorant of the past, that try to emulate it again.... hopefully enough people around Europe do have learned its lesson from last time around - and are not willing to accept anything like this again..

Anti-semetism - the hatred of jews are not new in Europe sadly - it is old as the sin and is a poison going from generation from generation - and is in many ways learned by parents - or other close family members - or friends you trust... And in many european nations - most notably in the east it was no real discussing about their own part of the killing of jews in world war two - even though many who was helping in the horrible act of war crimes - was punished, many by years in prison camps, labor camps and so one - some even got the death penalty - at large people was never educated about the horrible acts many was involved in - everything from arresting and sending people on their way - to germany or eastward - in most cases to their death in one of the worst camps imaginable...

But for some it is always a good reason to blame the jews - as it was in the past...

There is probably a lesson in there that hating one group of OTHERS often leads to hating OTHERS in general.

Though some racists specialize, most seem to multi-task in their hatreds.

And there are a lot of factors influencing both: economic insecurity leading to scapegoating of Others; disillusionment with the democratic process due to various political scandals and betrayals, leading to a rise in support for far-RW parties such as UKIP (it's well known that UKIP is anti-immigrant and Islamophobic; less well known that it's also a magnet for anti-Semites; e.g. half of UKIP supporters would never for a Jewish political candidate); increasing ease of communicating hate on the Internet and social media. High-profile world events involving Israel (with regard to anti-Semitism) and Muslim organizations (with regard to Islamophobia) have undoubtedly contributed to spikes in these forms of bigotry, but I think are often excuses more than causes.

If you are trying - which I hope you aren't - to imply that Pakistani immigrants are responsible for all the anti-Semitism in the UK, let us note that most Pakistani and other Asian immigration occurred in the 1960s and the 1970s, and that this increase in anti-Semitism occurred very recently.

Zoicks. What with this on the one hand, and 'But the British Jews really deserve anti-Semitism because of the deeds of Netanyahu' implied by a couple of people on the other hand, I sometimes wonder if I've wandered into Freeperland!
