Hillary Clinton offered John Edwards attorney general role during 2008 race, book says

A book penned by presidential campaign consultant David Axelrod — ‘Believer: My Forty Years in Politics,’ out Feb. 10 — makes the revelation about the 2008 bid for the Democratic nomination for President, which eventually went to Barack Obama, about how Clinton tried to secure Edwards’ endorsement and get him to exit the race.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Wednesday, February 4, 2015, 1:05 PM

Hillary Clinton offered former Sen. John Edwards the position of attorney general if he got out of the race and endorsed her in the 2008 Democratic primary, according to a new book.

Presidential campaign consultant David Axelrod, in his memoir “Believer: My Forty Years in Politics,” recalls a conversation with an Edwards emissary, who told him:

“Well between us, Hillary is offering attorney general, but what John really wants is to be on the ticket.”

The book is due out Feb. 10. An early copy was obtained by the Daily News.

“Hillary’s camp was desperate to escort him out the door,” Axelrod writes.
