"Lovejoy's (McGill University Professor) study applies statistical methodology to determine the probability that global warming since 1880 is due to natural variability.
His conclusion: the natural-warming hypothesis may be ruled out "with confidence levels great than 99 percent, and most likely greater than 99.9 percent."
The good professor studied global warming patterns since 1500 and in particular the effects of the Industrial Revolution on weather and came to the conclusion that man does and continues to have an impact on weather patterns.

(31,849 posts)It had a guy sitting in a doctor's office.
Doctor: I have some bad news. Your tests show you have a terrible disrase, that if it goes untreated, will lead to slow and painful death. But the good news is 99 out of a 100 doctors agree, the disease can be treated with a quick, simple; but, frankly, painful procedure.
Patient: When can I get in to see the 1 doctor?

(34,845 posts)Do we wring our hands and whine when a hurricane or an earthquake strikes? Or do we do the things necessary to mitigate the damage before it occurs by strengthening building codes, etc.?
The discussion should be what do we do about climate change, not trying to pin 'blame' on its cause.

(2,832 posts)If one of the causes is human release of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, then cutting the amount of those gases released is part and parcel of mitigation.
As long as we skip that part and just say, "It's happening. Let's build seawalls," then we're missing a major part of the mitigation picture.
