Just plan on working your dead end job until you literally drop dead on the job.

As long as middle class Americans keep defending horrible business practices by companies like Walmart or Target and many many others. you will have this problem.

Have some fun with this calculator

http://livingwage.mit.edu/

Now how many chain stores, for instance, or chain restaurants etc, would pay enough for a LIVING WAGE for one person to support a spouse and one child?

Unless you think the new normal is just fine, i.e. You and your spouse will work full time jobs, each, you will not retire when you start on social security because you wont be able to survive and you will both work until you die.

Have fun...if we let the oligarchs and the corps do this to us, we deserve it.

Just sayin...and the reason I say that is I see middle class Americans defending this shit all day long...

Especially now that generation with the major student debt have hit the job market. There will be a substantial amount of Americans who haven't "saved for retirement" because during their lifetime there were several recession/depressions - they spent long spates of time out of work or in minimum wage jobs. They supported large debts because of student loans and housing - and large liabilities for parental care, college for their children, and medical bills. In the end they may not own their own home to mortgage - they may have had to rent their entire life. Perhaps they don't have enough work credits for minimum social security.

The system (the rest of the American taxpaying public) will then hope you drop dead at that point. They will cry that it's unfair to burden the younger generation in paying for you after you just survived so many decades of all that crap.

It is just a fact that many people are not saving for retirement and CANNOT save for retirement. The life that has been inflicted on them is totally unfair - they may have had things to contribute, and even in their "golden years" they might have things to contribute still. Some sort of "entitlement" savings plan needs to be set up on their behalf. SSI is generally being used this way now (since very elderly people tend to be "disabled&quot , but it is not nearly enough considering the wave of people in this situation that will be coming down the pipe.
