Scott Walker When Asked About Evolution: 'I'm Going To Punt On That'

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a presumed 2016 Republican presidential contender, decided to dodge the question when asked Wednesday what he thought of the scientific theory of evolution, according to multiple reports.

Walker was posed the question during a visit to London, England, where he is visiting for four days as part of a Wisconsin trade delegation.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker leaves after a meeting with Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne at No 11 Downing Street on Wednesday.
Associated Press

In a speech short on policy and heavy on restraint, Gov. Scott Walker addressed Great Britain's most prominent think tank Wednesday, avoiding difficult foreign affairs questions while emphasizing the "special relationship" between the world's largest Anglophone countries.

The Republican governor sought in his speech to bolster his scant foreign policy credentials ahead of his likely presidential run even as he largely declined to tackle the toughest questions on international affairs and a variety of other subjects. In his last response, Walker declined to answer a question and follow-up from his interviewer about whether evolution was real, saying politicians were better off steering clear of that issue.

"I'm going to punt on that one as well," Walker said. "I'm here to talk about trade, not to pontificate about other things."

After Walker declined to state his views on evolution, the event's moderator, Justin Webb of BBC Radio 4, told him that he believed any British politician would answer such a question by making clear that he or she believed evolution was true. Walker's campaign spokeswoman had no immediate comment.

On international affairs questions, Walker largely answered by saying he subscribed to the "old-fashioned" approach of not criticizing the U.S. president or the host country while outside the United States.

"I just don't think you talk about foreign policy while you're on foreign soil," Walker said, adding later, "I don't think it's wise to undermine your own president" in such situations...........................

Are you comfortable with the idea that the Earth is only 6,000 years old?

Are you comfortable with the idea that co2 does not contribute to global warming to any extent?

Are you comfortable with the idea that the great flood found in Genesis was a true historical event where Noah saved two of every species?

Are you comfortable with the idea that a major conflagration in the middle east will signal the ultimate battle between good and evil where God will return to earth to judge humanity?

From what I've seen of the Kochs, they'll gladly let Walker feed the rightwing even when it's talking things they don't personally believe.

Scott Walker is the closest thing yet to Koch's directly controlling the marionette.

1 - is he afraid that the fundamentalist won't support him if he believes in real science and facts?
2 - is he so lacking in intellect he just hasn't formed an opinion
3 - does he actually not believe in evolution, but doesn't want to sound stupid to those who do notice facts and who care about science

Either way, epic fail, he just looks really stupid on an international stage. Bet the journalists were snickering.
