The Orange County school district, which includes Orlando, had allowed religious groups to hand out materials each year on Religious Freedom Day. The Christian group World Changers distributed Bibles to students, and the board allowed the Central Florida Freethought Community to hand out atheist materials last year after the group won a lawsuit.
But when the Satanic Temple, known for trying to build a Satanist monument in the Oklahoma state capitol, tried to hand out coloring books to students, the county board of education considered changing the rules. The district postponed Religious Freedom Day, and then the school board on Tuesday voted to change its policy.
The board decided to ban the distribution of religious, political, and sectarian materials from outside groups.

(12,051 posts)materials distribution and, oh, my, let's just stop all outside materials altogether!!
I do wonder at what point the Christians would arrive at this same conclusion -- does the religion have to be as 'bad' as Satanism? Or would they halt it for, say, Jewish or Roman Catholic tracts?? What about Mormons, or 7th Dayers?

(81,507 posts)Glad you're here! Amazing times we live in, 'eh? But with these extremists, sometimes it seems there has to be extreme push-back. It's the only thing they really understand. It's the only thing that makes them even attempt to think this through a little bit, and be careful - and fully aware and informed - about what they wish for. 'Cause when they actually do achieve what they wished for, they have no idea that the pretty, soft, fluffy little tuft of fur they're petting - is on the tip of a long tail with a hungry lioness on the other end of it!

(570 posts)The Satanists are doing a good job getting Christianity out of our schools and our government. I would even say in many ways their tactics of simply insisting on equal representation has been more effective than Atheists law suits.

(39,215 posts)in the case of Christianity - which denomination? I thank the Satanists for pointing this out. NO religion in schools. That is my job as a parent to teach my children what I want them to know and take them to my own church or no church at all. That is freedom of religion.

(21,046 posts)I bet none of the Christians ever read H.P. Lovecraft and would probably think Cthulhu is the same as Satan. Which he isn't. The Elder Gods are not really described. The tentacle face may be the work of an artist.
