(Reuters) - Police in Washington state shot a man to death who threw rocks at them, officials said on Wednesday, as a video published online appearing to show the incident drew criticism of the officers' actions.
The police shooting in Pasco, Washington comes amid heightened tension across the country in the wake of high-profile police killings of unarmed minorities, particularly in Ferguson, Missouri and New York City.
Officers Ryan Flanagan, Adam Wright, and Adrian Alaniz arrived at the parking lot of a Fiesta Foods grocery store around 5 p.m. local time on Tuesday, where suspect Antonio Zambrano-Montes threw rocks at them, Pasco Police Chief Bob Metzger said in a statement.

(65,616 posts)What were they suppose to do? Throw rocks back? We all know cops only aim center mass, so throwing rocks at people with guns and a badge can only end in one way. Death.

(151 posts)the rock thrower assaulted the LEOs by throwing the rocks, at that point the LEOs have the right to use deadly force to protect themselves. I am fairly certain they told him, with guns drawn to STOP and Place his hands on his head. He took off running. They used deadly force to stop him...AGAIN following a police officers orders when they have guns drawn is usually the difference between life and death. Or don't throw deadly missiles aka rocks at police officers.

(21,925 posts)the police do not have the right to shoot an unarmed man running away who THEN poses no deadly threat.

At no point in the video does the unarmed man throw a rock or even appear to possess a rock. If the rocks were deadly weapons, the threat to the officers passed when he no longer had rocks. They had no right to use deadly force at that point.
