What a gorgeous spring day in Kansas! Hundreds of women and men turned out in Topeka to march against the war on women. What a grand event!
Miami County Commission just refused federal funding for health care. Miami Countians were proudly represented today. One woman announced her candidacy for county commission.
It wouldn't be a protest in Kansas without the Phelps. There were there today - only 2 or 3 of them - and they were singing their little silly songs. I'll spare you the pictures and them the attention. But what was different today was a group of bikers who stood between the Phelps and the rally, keeping them from disrupting the speakers. You can just barely see the bikers in the background of this picture, holding American flags as they stand along the sidewalk.
Just loved her bravery to carry this sign all over Topeka.

(96,793 posts)TOPEKA | More than 200 advocates for abortion rights and other causes have rallied at the Kansas Statehouse for what they describe as a women's rights protest.
The We are Women event Saturday was one of multiple rallies around the country.
The Kansas rally came as state legislators are considering a bill giving greater legal protection to health care providers who refuse to participate in abortions or dispense abortion-inducing drugs. Critics believe the legislation would limit access to birth control.
Kansas rally organizers said they have a wide range of concerns, including a new state law requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls.

(51,579 posts)It takes a lot of guts to stand with a "IT'S MY PUSSY" sign in Topeka. But it SO needs to be said.
From "sea to shining sea" it needs to be said. Great to see a young woman involved in the fight for our rights!

(4,309 posts)At age 53, I would never display a sign like that, but I know 24 year-old daughter sure would! I am so proud that she would. Great to see so many young women getting involved!
