I stand up for my sisters and brothers in the gay community

for a member of this community to show up and say I'm a racist, again, because I bring up actions against gay members of the community I'm shocked. I've never been accused of being a racist, nor privileged. and basically told me in a thread like this that I was too "privileged" to give a shit about the gay community and the homeless as if they weren't black and destitute, too. I defy that ideal.

I'm a lesbian that has fought for all causes, and it shocks me when I get attacked like I'm some privileged asshole bitch. I'm an asshole bitch, but I fought for it.

I'm uncomfortable - skeptical of str8s - as it is - on this board w/ few exceptions I think I'm I'm in the company of str8s who support LGBTIQ rights for surface political reasons only.

But I was pummeled as a privileged asshole under another Trayvon article. I understand the rage, but relentlessly taking it out on people? Not cool.

Like I said, as part of the gay community, I know black, red, yellow, white and most importantly gorgeous people.

I wish the rest of humanity would be gay and then they would stop being so angry.

On this board we were scripted to be all be white, gay male, & affluent.

This is old DU territory.

And that is sad.

And don't even get me started on Prop 8 and Rick Warren. Don't even get me started. Is somebody on DU calling gay people racists again? This crap has got to stop.

I am part of this community. I am a gay white female, and I have faced far greater challenges than idiots on a message board. Though I did hope this would be a refuge of like minded people.

That our family members on DU get the message. They don't seem to understand that by beating down people adhered to their cause undermines their own. EF and RQ need to embrace an understanding of the world that involves forgiving, plotting your next move and letting bullshit go

Haven't we learned anything? Haven't we heard that NOM is working to divide gay people from people of color, in contempt of the fact that gay people ARE people of color and every other minority? Who is trying this divide and conquer crap again? They are trolls. They are not progressives.

I've no idea what, specifically, you're talking about...but:

I don't really think that it takes much thought to realise that yes, gays and lesbians are tremendously and actively discriminated against in American society, and that in a lot of places anti-gay bigotry is seen as perfectly socially acceptable; at the same time I don't think it's really a contest of some sort as to who is more discriminated against. The existence, and pervasiveness, of prejudice in American society...whether it's based on sexuality, race, or religion...is an ugly thing, and one would hope that people would be clever enough to figure out that mentioning in a specific instance anti-gay discrimination doesn't mean that one doesn't care about racial discrimination or other forms of discrimination.

Who advocate against gays and lesbians by dismissing them and sublimating any claim that they have under the guise of "Our claim is greater than yours" without realizing that bigotry harms us all.

It boggles my mind, but that's the best guess I have.
