Monsanto Blamed For Bee Population Collapse, So It Buys Bee Research Firm

If you can't beat'em, why not buy'em? Biotechnology giant Monsanto has had the collective finger pointed at it for a lot of things, including the apparent collapse of the bee population. So instead of fighting off skeptics, it just decided to buy out Beeologics, a major international research firm devoted to studying and protecting bees.

Natural News says Beeologics made the announcement that as of September 28, 2011, the company is part of Monsanto. Beeologics was devoted to studying colony collapse disorder (CCD) and Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus (IAPV) to try and find out how to intervene and stop bees from dying off.

Critics of Monsanto are worried that it will avoid CCD and IAPV, since they're big on genetically modified organisms, and will deny any link between the bee deaths and the GMO technologies and chemicals it employs.

"Monsanto will use the base technology from Beeologics as a part of its continuing discovery and development pipeline," says the announcement. "Biological products will continue to play an increasingly important role in supporting the sustainability of many agricultural systems."

Which could mean using more chemicals to fight the bee collapse, when chemicals may have had a part in the deaths in the first place. Poor bees. We like our honey.

really disingenuous to say the least....

Glyphosate https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Glyphosate is the major ingredient in Roundup which is being looked at to cause bee colony collapse also.

To know more about bees and there condition today look at this website. http://pierreterre.com/

Monsanto’s GMOs Alter DNA of Bacteria to Produce Pesticides in your Gut

The scariest thing about GMOs, to me, is that we really don’t know much about them. There’s almost no concrete evidence out there that proves the danger of consuming GM foods to humans. Wonder why that is?

There has only been one study done on the effects of GMOs in humans.

ONE.

And a pretty important little piece of knowledge from the lone study back in 2004 was gained — that GM genes effectively transfer into the bacteria living inside our intestines, causing them to carry out the altered genetic function — which in some GM foods, is PRODUCING PESTICIDES.

Roundup-Ready Gut Flora

The human subjects of the study who ate Roundup-Ready soy, courtesy of Monsanto, were shown to have bacteria in their gut with the same gene that was altered in the soy to withstand the deadly doses of herbicides given to the crop.

So my gut germs won’t be killed by chemical herbicides, you say? Yeah that doesn’t sound too bad. Except, disrupting the delicate balance of healthy intestinal flora, is a serious health gamble. You don’t want to go around messing with this stuff.

Without that normal, probiotic bacteria functioning as it should, your health is shot. Your immune system cannot function. You can’t digest foods. Your “bad” bacteria begins to take over, causing holes in your gut to develop and toxins to produce and leak out into your bloodstream.

We don’t know how altering the genetic makeup of the beneficial bacteria we need to keep our bodies healthy, will affect it in the long run. The thought of having Monsanto-tampered living beings constantly inside my body, does make me want to vomit, however.

The Autism Revolution
by Martha Herbert, MD, PhD, with Karen Weintraub

[img][/img]

After years of treating patients and analyzing scientific data, prominent Harvard researcher and clinician Dr. Martha Herbert offers a revolutionary new view of autism and a transformative strategy for dealing with it. Autism is not a hardwired impairment programmed into a child’s genes and destined to remain fixed forever, as we’re often told. Instead, it is the result of a cascade of events, many seemingly minor: perhaps a genetic mutation, some toxic exposures, a stressful birth, a vitamin deficiency, and a series of infections. And while other doctors may dismiss your child’s physical symptoms—the diarrhea, anxiety, sensory overload, sleeplessness, immune challenges, and seizures—as coincidental or irrelevant, Dr. Herbert sees them as vital clues to what the underlying problems are, and how to help. In The Autism Revolution, she teaches you how to approach autism as a collection of problems that can be overcome—and talents that can be developed. Each success you achieve gives your child more room to become healthy and to thrive.

Drawing from the newest research, technologies, and insights, as well as inspiring case studies of both children and adults, Dr. Herbert guides you toward restoring health and resiliency in your loved one with autism. Her specific recommendations aim to provide optimal nutrition, reduce toxic exposures, shore up the immune system, reduce stress, and open the door to learning and creativity—all by understanding and truly meeting your child’s needs. As thousands of families who have cobbled together these solutions themselves already know, this program can have dramatic benefits—for your child with autism, and for you, your whole family, and your next baby as well.

A paradigm-changing book that offers hope and healing for the millions of families who have autism in their lives, The Autism Revolution shows that there’s plenty you can do every day to give someone you love the best possible gift: a life lived to the fullest potential.

Martha Herbert, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School and a pediatric neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she is the director of the TRANSCEND Research Program. She sits on the Scientific Advisory Committee for Autism Speaks.

Karen Weintraub, MA, is an award-winning journalist and freelance health writer for outlets like The Boston Globe, USA Today, and the BBC. A past recipient of a prestigious Knight Center for Science Journalism fellowship, she also teaches journalism at the Harvard Extension School and Boston University.

Editorial Reviews

Advance praise for The Autism Revolution

“Martha Herbert’s book gives us a new approach to understanding how autism affects many different body systems. It is essential reading for learning more about sensible biomedical treatments.”
—Temple Grandin, author of Thinking in Pictures and The Way I See It

“This book offers hope and practical guidance to heal your child’s whole body system. It will be an important reference for everyone who knows someone with autism or has an interest in the field to read, study, and use.”
—Robert L. Hendren, DO, professor and vice chair, Department of Psychiatry, and director, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University of California, San Francisco

“Combining meticulous, world-class research on autism’s biomedical causes and treatment with an artful presentation of the condition as a whole-body phenomenon, Martha Herbert elevates to a new level the thinking about, understanding of, and developing of interventions for supporting individuals on the autism spectrum. The Autism Revolution is a unique and valuable resource.”
—Stephen M. Shore, EdD, assistant professor of special education at Adelphi University

“Written by a brilliant scientist in easy-to-understand language, The Autism Revolution gives parents two life-changing gifts. First is the gift of realistic hope; the second is the gift of knowledge. Drawing upon her vast knowledge of research and an eclectic array of approaches, Dr. Herbert helps parents understand their child in a new, holistic way, sending them on a journey of exploration and opportunity.”
—John L. Martin, director, Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities

“The Autism Revolution is a remarkable book. Complex evidence is summarized in easy-to-read prose, and practical advice is sprinkled throughout the book. A convincing case is made that autism is a disorder of both the brain and the body, and that there are many features of the environment—from the foods we eat to the pollutants that we breathe—that may play a role. This book will provide a blueprint for the future research agenda on this fascinating condition.”
—Richard J. Davidson, William James and Vilas Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry, and founder and chair, Center for Investigating Healthy Minds, University of Wisconsin-Madison

“It is clear that Dr. Herbert cares deeply about the subject of autism and the people affected by it. Covering the topic as a physician, a scientist, an anthropologist, and a philosopher, she uses her exploration of autism to guide people to possible factors they may not have considered.”
—Timothy Buie, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics, Harvard Medical School

Somehow they believe that this is the fault of the Obama admin. Not even bringing Bush into the picture, that this is somehow purely Barack Obama's fault lol. They keep saying that we need Ron Paul to stand up to these evil companies. So when I replied with, "How? Through completely unregulated purely free market capitalism?" Now they're taking their time getting back to me. No doubt taking their side of it to their own crazy forum.

Seriously, though. Nowadays, Monsanto is the #1 reason for instituting strict gov't regulation. But I feel like the FDA is neutered. What can be done to fix it?

It shoulders the task of forming us and monitoring us from cradle to grave, and teaching us to want the things it wants us to want. It is not merely a matter of owning the police and corrupting the politicians. Capital has corrupted the academic study of economics to furnish an ideological superstructure, and the official state religion, and it has corrupted the study of psychology into the perverted creature called Marketing to provide it with the means to condition humans into predictable docile consumption units and debt creation mules. It is taking direct control over pedagogy. It no longer waits for willing workers and acquisitive consumers, but in full consciousness it embraces the task of molding their minds to serve its ends exclusively, from the womb onwards. Which is all to say, capitalism has become a self aware totalitarian project, albeit one with a hundred, or a thousand, or even ten thousand Dear Leaders, each pursuing the same social control program, in perfect accord with each other as how the rest of us are to be treated and thought of, even as they strive to be the capo di tutti capi, the Alpha Noah Cross.

And it is the information age. What does it say about us if corporations are going to be buying information so that they don't face regulations? What are experts for if not to make good information available to all.
