31 Republican men voted against the Violence Against Women Act in the Senate

think-progress: 31 Republican men voted against the Violence Against Women Act in the Senate today. All 5 Republican women voted for it

Senate Passes Violence Against Women Act | The Senate just passed the third reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Though Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) were attempting to water down the bill through amendments, they ultimately failed and the bill passed in its original form. The politicization of domestic violence isn’t over yet, though– the bill now moves onto the House of Representatives, where it’s already been emotionally debated. Republicans have already said that they will try to mirror the watered down language of the Senate amendment that did not pass.

from that cretin Mike Lee, R-UT. I sent him an email regarding his vote. I told him I did not want the usual canned ideology but an honest response. Still waiting.

Her position is not stated on her website.

Since she was a physician before entering politics, I would hope that she *might* have some common sense on this issue, but I'm not holding my breath.

17. Hayworth's position
Wed May 2, 2012, 04:42 PM
May 2012

Hayworth's position is that she supports a "Violence Against Women Act" as proposed by House Republicans. This version removes protections for undocumented immigrants, LGBT and Native Americans, while providing some added support for women who look like Rep. Hayworth (additional funding for investigations, rape kits, etc.) She is looking to deflect the question "Why do you oppose protection for women" by substituting "why should undocumented women, LGBT and Native American women be excluded from protection" - a question she probably feels will be more popular among the racist xenophobes and homophobes who are apparently quite prevalent in her district.

5. My response from Sen Mike Lee Office

After specifically stating I did not want the usual canned response, this is what I received:

Dear XXXX
:
Thank you for recently contacting Senator Lee. He always appreciates input from the citizens of Utah on matters brought before the United States Senate. I regularly brief the Senator on the thoughts and ideas shared with our office. This way, he can consider your input when voting on issues related to the Violence Against Women Act.
Please feel free to reach out to our office if we can be of any assistance in the future. Thank you for writing.
Regards,
Peter Blair
Office of Senator Michael S. Lee

Please Note:
Senator Lee can be followed on Facebook at www.facebook.com/senatormikelee and on Twitter at www.twitter.com/SenMikeLee. For more information on what he is working on, please visit his website regularly at www.lee.senate.gov.

These people are so out of touch.
