Romney Campaign Lies Again: "The GM Bailout was Mitt's Idea"

Romney Campaign Lies Again: "The GM Bailout was Mitt's Idea"

by joelgp

No, you can't make this stuff up. Remember when Romney wrote this in the New York Times: "If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed."

Well, Obama gave them the money, restructured the company and they are the strongest car company in the world. So how does an Etcha-a-Sketch so-called business expert "un-say" something that was so obviously wrong?

YOU JUST LIE, and hope no one notices. Thehill.com notices:

"One of Mitt Romney's top advisers said Saturday that President Obama's decision to bailout Chrysler and General Motors was actually Romney's idea.

&quot Romney's) position on the bailout was exactly what President Obama followed. I know it infuriates them to hear that," Eric Fehrnstrom, senior adviser to the Romney campaign, said.

"The only economic success that President Obama has had is because he followed Mitt Romney's advice."

Wow!!

Romney is either extremely desperate or delusional.

Mitt Romney's bailout problem

by Jed Lewison

Mitt Romney isn't against all bailouts. He's only against some of them. And in fact, he's really only against one in particular:

Bailouts approved by Mitt Romney:............Bailouts opposed by Mitt Romney:
• Wall Street (2008)................................• American auto industry (2009)
• Salt Lake City Winter Olympics (2002)
• GS Tech, owned by Bain (2002)
• Bain & Co. Consulting (1993)

So when it came to bailing out Wall Street or his own enterprises, Romney was thumbs up. And when it came to taking tens of millions in public subsidies for companies in which he invested, Romney was thumbs up too.

And who knows, maybe the naysayers would finally come around and say that standing by America's workers was the right thing to do. (Applause.) Because, I've got to admit, it's been funny to watch some of these folks completely try to rewrite history now that you're back on your feet. (Applause.) The same folks who said, if we went forward with our plan to rescue Detroit, "you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye." Now they're saying, we were right all along. (Laughter.)

Not only was he the one who ordered the hit, but he was with Seal Team 6 as they stormed the compound. I believe he was also on the ship that dumped Osama's body into the Indian Ocean.

It's true.

I can't see how taking this tactic will do anything but expose him as the congenital liar that he is. The Obama re-election team had been handed a gift by Team Rmoney. He could have defended his original and public position by saying, "things would have been better if Detroit had gone through a structured bankruptcy". No one would believe it, but at least there was no way to disprove the hypothetical. Instead, he's not only signaling the Obama was right on his position to save the industry, but, worse, he's flat out lying about his own, hi-profile position. This will be a total PR disaster for Mitt, just in time for tomorrows News Shows. Well played, Mitt!

He also invented Rock and Roll, Swing too. Scored the winning touchdown in the 1st Super Bowl. Dated and dumped Angelina Jolie. Left a dog on his car roof during a 10 hour drive. Whoops, that last one is a lie.

John McCain thinks it is a terrible thing for Obama to take credit for something he actually did do (killing Osama), but it is perfectly fine for a Republican to take credit for something that he didn't do but that Obama actually did do, even though that selfsame Republican argued vehemently at the time that Obama shouldn't do it.

That about right?
