Seattle Space Needle workers insulted by advice to 'Live on Less'

Source: KIRO-TV

Space Needle workers say instead of getting a raise, they got a presentation on “How to Live on Less.”

The webinar was emailed to Space Needle workers last month. Click here to see it.

... Part of the presentation advises workers to budget and “Make it Fun!” Some tips include:
- “Learn to cook gourmet, not pay gourmet.”
- “Learn when your local museums, parks, and other places of interest offer free or discount days.”
- “Be creative.”

Unite Here 8 is the union for Space Needle workers. The union says the last raise for employees was a 35-cent raise four years ago.

Walmart puts charity bins in the break rooms so the more well-to-do employees (not the Waltons, mind you ) can donate food & clothing to the less-well-off employees.

I know I do, and I live on about $12,000 a year.

of course, I have a house that is paid for. But why is that? At least partly, because when I was househunting, I only looked at houses that were less than $60,000. Found one that was $57,000 that looked okay, but I wasn't quite satisfied, so I looked in a few more places, way up to St. Joseph and Plattsburg. Finally ended up in Kansas where there were lots of houses under $40,000, even, amazingly enough many under $15,000 (most of them, though, were already occupied by renters and they were packed like cordwood into these crowded neighborhoods with no yards. I looked at a few of them from the outside and said "ugh".

My realtor said something like - "don't look at the cadillacs when you are on a chevy budget." (perhaps one way to "avoid feeling deprived&quot

My bank was trying to tell me I could afford a $70,000 house on my $23,000 salary.

7. Cut Congressional Pay to Current Minimum Wage

I think this should be a Constitutional amendment. Congressional pay should always be minimal wage, and they should not get health care unless they have legislated universal health care for all Americans.

After that Amendment is passed, they should be shown this presentation.

That is all.

That's just laundering for the big money. Now, if we stopped insider trading for Congress, that would be a BFD. Or war profiteering and passing legislation so your husband's company doesn't have to pay minimum wage or any other number of conflicts of interest, and then it would really hurt.

But I agree in theory with what you are saying completely and I do think the lifelong healthcare is bunk and they should worry about being fired and losing their insurance just like everyone else until they get rid of employment tethered benefits.

And these guys are unionized, so I expect they are a bit higher than that.

edited to add:
housing is outrageous in Western Wa. area, tho.
I could not afford to move back there when I retired, which is why I am in Ala. which is about 2/3 less expensive.
