Now the repugs will kill Medicare, leaving that option unavailable to be brought up for discussion or anything else.

(16,646 posts)The argument amongst the insiders has always been about when the White House abandoned the public option. I think you'll find that even the insiders don't agree. Some became aware as early as July that it was THE major obstacle to cutting almost any of the other deals. It is traceable that about that time "leaks" started coming out about how the public option was gone. It was probably more likely that these leaks came from people who were trying to save it. That doesn't really mean that the deals had been cut yet. IF there is something to "blame" here, it is that the insiders began as early as July to let it be known that the PO was "trade-able". When Obama himself was on board may be never known. To some extent Obama himself may not really know. Considering he had twice gone before congress and declared his demand for the PO, it is probably true that he may have been one of the last "on board".
