The Recipe...

Robert Gibbs had a good quote this morning on MTP. His comment was that the "Republicans say that the Democrats are too slow in cleaning up their mess." (paraphrasing, but close)

Republicans are out of touch with reality. They need to stop lying. When they do lie, the media needs to call them out. When they don't call them on the lying, the Democrats need to call out the media for not doing their job. The voters need to make sure all of them are sticking with the facts and not making shit up.

I was just asking how the Reps manage the eplc scope of lies and bullshit. Party discipline? Organization? Long term planning? Press accountability is a big piece of the picture.

And this faulty premise is one reason why things are so fucked up...

"When they (the media) don't call them (republicans) on the lying, the Democrats need to call out the media for not doing their job."

Your faulty premise is that it is NOT the job of the media to call out liars, or even to tell the truth. It is the job of the media to generate profits for its owners. Period.

Once we disabuse ourselves of the notion that it is somehow the media's job to do anything other than create profits, we might have a chance of changing things. Once people understand that the media is nothing more than a profit center, they might finally realize they are being lied to, and look for other sources for their information. Demanding that they "call out" anybody, gives them legitimacy that they don't deserve.

My 2 cents...

But since the majority of people think the "media" does have this power, it is even more reason to discredit them at every opportunity. The Democratic Party sometimes acts as if the media are their friends. They are not.
