Is MSNBC Abandoning Its Liberal Slant?

<...> According to knowledgeable sources at the Comcast-owned cable network, Thursday's moves were only the opening salvo in a wider programming shakeup. In the relatively near term, two well-placed sources predicted to The Daily Beast, Chris Hayes will be relieved of his weak-performing 8 p.m. show All In, to be replaced by the current 9 p.m. host of The Rachel Maddow Show, while a talent search is underway to fill the prime-time slot to be vacated by Maddow.

In the longer term, these sources said, the Rev. Al Sharpton—a larger-than-life personality who attracts a 35 percent African-American audience but continues, after 3½ years of nightly practice, to wrestle with his Teleprompter—could eventually be moved from his weeknight 6 p.m. slot to a weekend time period, as MNSBC President Phil Griffin attempts to reverse significant viewership slides by accentuating straight news over left-leaning opinion. <...>

Grove’s prediction that Hayes will be out sooner rather than later may be true, but if so it is certainly news to his colleague Rachel Maddow: We are reliably told that she hasn’t been involved in any discussions about taking over Hayes’ 8 p.m. timeslot. The notion that Sharpton might move to a weekend slot likewise comes “way out of left field,” according to a well-placed MSNBC insider.

liberal shows, like on Ed's and Chris's. Dropping those other show hosts is ramping up the change. Evidently, their numbers were low to begin with but if they think they are going to get more viewers with Fux-lite, they will lose what viewership they have. It's a stupid move IMHO. I know I won't watch because that so-called straight news won't be that straight but more corporate propaganda. I'll just switch over to Free Speech TV and stream online.

outspoken than on her daily fare. They should have kept Joy Reid's show, bright woman. Read here that she will have some reporting work with them now. Recently Maher had a guest who said she would be starting MSNBC Fri. nights, African American woman, transgender I think. Surprised there's been no mention of this here that I've seen.

9. Why not? The networks have already gotten rid of any news.

A 24 hour dead air channel would be more instructive.

in America. They have some absolutely fantastic reporting!

NPR occasionally approaches that, but far too often, throws in subtle and not-so-subtle right-wing slanting.

OMG seriously?!! Since when did any member of the Ministry of Corporate Propaganda ever accentate straight news and not........propaganda?

So part of the answer is to keep shoving Morning, Dead Intern, Joe down our throats despite the shitty ratings?!

Real news would be a huge improvement over anything these networks pollute the air with. Too bad it won't happen anytime soon.

Blow it out your rear MSNBC.
