General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo apparently Hillary is considering a campaign headquarters in Brooklyn Heights (Patty Duke Show)
http://time.com/3702341/hillary-clinton-brooklyn-queens/I know, I know. Hilllary's corporate, predatory agenda of TPP, GMO's, warmongering, surveillance/police state, and Wall Street is not at all funny.
But the choice of Brooklyn Heights is somehow apt, given the predictable two faces of a Third Way politician:
The Hillary Goldman Sachs Show Theme Song
Meet Hilly who's just like me and you,
She's been dead broke
And Southern too!
But Helly much prefers the spots
Her donors see from Dimon's yachts...
What a sneaky two!
But they're Blue Team!
Identical Blue Team, all the way!
One pair of matching Clintons,
Excepting that one's Third Way.
Where Hilly's been caught in sniper fire,
Evolved on marriage, changed a tire!
Our Helly loves her GMO's
And caging those who whistleblow!
How they do conspire!
But still they're Blue Team!
They claim that they're Blue Team, though you'll find
They bomb alike, they kill alike,
And yes they even shill alike,
You can lose your mind...
When Clinton is two of a kind!
We need to heal this party. Nothing is more important than getting the corruption of corporate money out of our party, our government, our elections.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_health_care_plan_of_1993
The Clinton health care plan, known officially as the Health Security Act, was a 1993 healthcare reform package proposed by the administration of President Bill Clinton and closely associated with the chair of the task force devising the plan, First Lady of the United States Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Bill Clinton had campaigned heavily on health care in the 1992 U.S. presidential election. The task force was created in January 1993, but its own processes were somewhat controversial and drew litigation. Its goal was to come up with a comprehensive plan to provide universal health care for all Americans, which was to be a cornerstone of the administration's first-term agenda. A major health care speech was delivered by President Clinton to the U.S. Congress in September 1993. The core element of the proposed plan was an enforced mandate for employers to provide health insurance coverage to all of their employees.
Opposition to the plan was heavy from conservatives, libertarians, and the health insurance industry. The industry produced a highly effective television ad, "Harry and Louise", in an effort to rally public support against the plan. Instead of uniting behind the President's original proposal, Democrats offered a number of competing plans of their own. Hillary Clinton was drafted by the Clinton Administration to head a new Task Force and sell the plan to the American people, a plan which ultimately backfired amid the barrage of fire from the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries and considerably diminished her own popularity. By September 1994, the final compromise Democratic bill was declared dead by Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell[citation needed].

It can't be that we don't agree with her politics.
I have said it since it happened; I will never vote for anyone that voted for the war in Iraq. Period. If she actually gets the nomination, I will have to leave DU. I will follow the rules.
But until that happens, I will push for the best democratic candidate for the nomination. whoever that may be. It isn't Hillary.

The only question is, are so inclined? I'm afraid you're looking like a disruptor, not a defenestrator -- so if you toss anything out the window, it should be your snarky and so childish attitude. We're Democrats here--if we're going to get shirty with anyone, I'd prefer it to be Republicans--and not in a place I used to regard as a safe haven to discuss issues, even with people who disagree on particulars.
Nowadays, this place reads a lot like Free Republic in many regards, and that's unfortunate.

But for the record, here are the original lyrics:
Meet Cathy, who's lived most everywhere,
From Zanzibar to Barclay Square.
But Patty's only seen the sights
A girl can see from Brooklyn Heights --
What a crazy pair!
But they're cousins,
Identical cousins all the way.
One pair of matching bookends,
Different as night and day.
Where Cathy adores a minuet,
The Ballet Russe, and crepes suzette,
Our Patty loves to rock and roll,
A hot dog makes her lose control --
What a wild duet!
Still, they're cousins,
Identical cousins and you'll find,
They laugh alike, they walk alike,
At times they even talk alike --
You can lose your mind,
When cousins are two of a kind.

What wasn't known about her is that she had horrible, exploitive parents who abused her and stole all her money.
Later on, as she aged, she continued to work. She married Gomez of Addams Family fame and became Patty Duke Astin for a time (ended in divorce).
She struggled with mental health issues (bipolar), wrote a book or two about that, and became a spokesperson for that cause.
She's still alive, still works on occasion.

(25,026 posts)Some of them might even be younger but have seen the Nick at Night or other "throwbacks" and reruns.
Hell, there is even a more recent movie on Netflix though I'd imagine you'd have to be a real big fan to catch that, my little sister was the fan but the song was catchy.
It is just a taste and exposure deal, I love "You Bet Your Life" (Groucho Marx game show) and that started in the late 40's or early 50's, I guess but it still came on nightly in reruns when I was a kid so that was my in to the Marx Brothers.
Two of my top three favorite shows ended before I was born (Star Trek, The Twilight Zone) and quite a few others I really like would fit that description.
I guess I'm saying you could probably be about any age and have come across it. You could have maybe been there at the time and not recollect it at all too I'd guess though the further you go back the less content and channels there were so the further back something came on the more likely more people would be familiar. Nowadays shit comes, stays on for years, and goes and I never even hear of it much less see it all the time yet much of what has been on since TV is either broadcast or available online.

Trying to get at the "geezer vote" (and I am a geezer myself, so none of that faux outrage, now) by rooting around in their cherished tee vee memories is a major fail. A sad embarrassment, really.
The Patty Duke Show is an American sitcom that ran on ABC from September 18, 1963 to April 27, 1966, with reruns airing through August 31. The show was created as a vehicle for rising star Patty Duke.
