Idaho State Representative Introduces Resolution to Impeach Federal Judges

Nathan Brown of The Times-News http://www.brennancenter.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=78394&qid=3716332 reports that the “Idaho House [State Affairs] committee voted Monday to introduce a resolution calling for the impeachment of federal judges who don’t follow the original intent of the U.S. Constitution.” This resolution has largely been prompted by recent court rulings that struck down same-sex marriage bans, notes Brown. Rep. Paul Shepherd (R-Riggins), the resolution’s sponsor, “told the House State Affairs Committee Monday that the power to define marriage should be left to the states, since the 10th Amendment reserves powers not explicitly given to the federal government to the states or the people.” Rep. John McCrostie (D-Garden City), the state’s only openly gay lawmaker, said, “this proposed piece of legislation would stand, ultimately, to take away my marriage.” The State Affairs Committee voted 12-4 to introduce the resolution, clearing the way for a hearing.
