Minneapolis Police Officer Shot Was "Intended Target"

Police searched for a suspect Saturday morning after a Minneapolis police officer was shot around 5 a.m. during a burglary call on the North Side, according to police.

The officer was taken by his partner to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where he is in satisfactory condition, police said.

Police said that the two officers had just finished handling a burglary call on the 1100 block of 24th Avenue N. in the Jordan neighborhood around 5 a.m. One of the officers was shot while standing outside their squad car.

--------------------------

"There is little doubt that an officer was the intended target of this shooting and that this officer just happened to be the one who was there," Harteau said in a police release.

Apparently some creep just out looking for a cop to kill.

MINNEAPOLIS — Somebody shot and wounded a Minneapolis police officer early Saturday in what appears to have been a targeted attack, department officials said.

Two officers were standing by their marked squad car after having just finished handling a burglary call at about 5 a.m. when someone shot one of them, police spokesman John Elder said. The wounded officer's partner drove him to a hospital, where Elder said he was in "satisfactory but stable condition." He didn't go into further detail about the injuries.

Elder said they are investigating whether the burglary actually happened.

"We're looking to see if that is a setup for the shooting, or did this individual just drive around looking for a police officer of some sort," he said. "At this point we don't know."

The word is probably already out on the street.

It is fortunate that one of the best trauma hospitals in the state is 4 minutes away (at the speed limit) from the place of the shooting. I bet the injured officer was at the ER in under 90 seconds driving time.

I'd say you're right about this being an outstanding trauma center.

what injuries the officer sustained, I can think of only one other trauma center in the Twin Cities that might handle gunshot wounds as well as North Memorial (Hennepin County Medical Center just south of downtown Minneapolis).

at home. His injuries will not result in permanent damage.

There has been an arrest. It seems to be a domestic situation berween the perp and his female companion.

I don't know exactly what his injuries were, but it seems like the hospital took great care of the officer.

that he is already at home. The injuries must not have been severe. I think it was some sort of domestic and the guy got crazy.
