Another Reporter Quits eBay Founder's News Startup: 'What A Pathetic Joke'

A reporter for the news website that launched by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar announced in a fiery series of Facebook posts in recent days that he had quit his job, marking the latest high-profile departure from First Look Media.

Ken Silverstein, a former Harper's editor who went to work for First Look's investigative arm The Intercept last year, unloaded on the enterprise after his resignation.

"Wow, it is amazing how good it feels not to work for The Intercept," Silverstein wrote on his private Facebook account on Saturday.

Silverstein gave media journalist Jim Romenesko permission to reprint his Facebook messages on Sunday.

He focused much his ire on First Look management and the collapse of Racket, the organization's political-satirical website that fell apart before publishing anything. Silverstein originally joined the organization to work for Racket, but moved to the Intercept after the collapse. He wrote that the company essentially "forced" Racket editor Matt Taibbi to resign through "incompetence and bad faith."

Did Snowden make over $100,000 last year? Did he spend more than 30 days in the USA last year? If the answers are NO and NO, then by law he is not required to pay US taxes.

Foreign Earned Income Exclusion

If you meet certain requirements, you may qualify for the foreign earned income and foreign housing exclusions and the foreign housing deduction.

If you are a U.S. citizen or a resident alien of the United States and you live abroad, you are taxed on your worldwide income. However, you may qualify to exclude from income up to an amount of your foreign earnings that is adjusted annually for inflation ($91,500 for 2010, $92,900 for 2011, $95,100 for 2012, and $97,600 for 2013). In addition, you can exclude or deduct certain foreign housing amounts.

It's measured in rubles.

I was juror #1

On Mon Feb 23, 2015, 03:21 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

But Greenwald got to hold someone else's Oscar!!...nt
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=6265923

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

This it rude, hurtful, and totally off-topic

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Feb 23, 2015, 03:28 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This alert is a new level of thin skinned-ness from the Greenwald worshipping crowd.

And it is worship if this kind of a statement can cause one to run off to the alert button.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: What a bullshit alert...
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Is this alert meant to be a joke?
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Rude or hurtful to whom exactly? This alert is a bit silly.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Move along folks, nothing to see here... Sheesh...

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

That's at least the 5th alert against me that's come back 6-1 in the past few days. I got PM's from DU'ers passing along jury results all weekend.

Glad to see jurors are wise enough to know a "bullshit alert", to quote juror #2, when they see one.

Thanks for posting the results.

The president are the same ones who issue this kind of alert for hurt feewings if we in any way say anything remotely non complimentary toward Greenwald or Snowden.

and spent millions of dollars on it and in the end fired everyone and Racket never published a single story is probably the greatest squandering of money and example of criminal ineptitude in the history of modern journalism."

That's what I was thinking as began to read Silverstein's comments. What little I knew about Racket in the beginning sounded really promising.

Frankly, I had misgivings about Omidyar bankrolling this, but I thought it was just my own bias against billionaires tinkering in journalism.

It would be interesting to read an in-depth, investigative report on this whole thing someday.

Omidyar doesn't seem to have had issues working with other people in his past, whereas many of his hires at first look have had issues with that and are known for having abrasive personalities and enormous egos.

Omidyar is not whom I would assume is to blame here. I wonder if he would let me interview him on the subject. Hmmm
