Belling the cat

My last OP got me looking at my Discussionist Journal and got me thinking, how many of you have belled the cat, taking on conservatives/Republicans on neutral or even their own turf?

I was doing it quite a bit a decade ago and got bored with it, if I didn't get kicked off I could get to the point I could say almost anything and not get any replies except maybe other liberals.

When Discussionist launched I went over there and tried out my old conservative taunting chops for a while until I got bored again.

1. Tried Discussionist, but didn't last. Conservatives are far too facile to be interesting and the

Handle was MassLiberal. They eventually figured out I was not one of them.

It was a hoot.

I eventually got kicked off when they ran a piece claiming that the Liberal media were wimps for not running cartoons with Mohammed in them, and I asked why Newsbusters didn't do the same.

Which is kind of cool about Discussionist, you can corner them and there's nowhere for them to go and they can't just get rid of you.

Then you start pounding the tent peg into the ground.

But you have to be able to admit your weaknesses easily, if they make a valid point go ahead and agree and accept they are right about some things, it pulls them off balance enough that you can jib jab them with some other stuff before they get back on stride with the talking points.

I was on Riehlworldview for a while, Dan wouldn't kick you off back then if you obeyed the rules which was mostly no profanity/personal attacks. A few others I can't even remember the name of, it's hard to find right wing sites that don't reflexively can anyone who deviates from orthodoxy.

But I could never pretend to be one. Just couldn't get the words out to seem believable. Made my skin crawl

4. Multiple Hides on Discussionist for calling them greedy, ignorant, racist, warmongers, gun nuts, etc

I too have enjoyed engaging today's right wingers, but it's difficult to play nice with the typical right wing haters and jerks. They say they want to discuss issues, but only if you are into gunz, racism, war mongering, etc. Screw em.

There are folks here who are difficult to discuss issues with; but unless they are trolls, their hearts are usually in the right place.

5. I can't remember if I got a hide or not on Discussionist

It wasn't more than one..

I've always found it's better to show than tell.

For instance notice no one actually disagreed with this OP of mine wherein I thoroughly trash trickle down economics..

And then there was this one about gay marriage..

is one of my favorite parables. Everybody knows something has to be done about something, but nobody wants to do it.

A few have in my lifetime, and I count Snowden and Manning among them.
