Giant 8ft 9in catfish weighing 19 stone caught in Italy

That 266 pounds!

A fisherman has caught a giant 8ft 9in long catfish weighing 19 stone - and it could be the biggest ever caught with the humble rod and line.

Dino Ferrari hooked the huge wels catfish, which was 2.67m in length, last week in the Po Delta in Italy.

The cannibalistic wels catfish, also known as the sheatfish, is native to Europe and can grow as long as 13ft and up to 62st - but it is exceedingly rare to catch one that is over two metres long.

In time honoured tradition, he then posed for a photo to secure bragging rights before letting the creature swim back into the water at the River Ebro in Catalonia.

Is it possible something could be so big and weigh so little? (my wife just said?)

And what part of the fish were they weighing waist high?

It all sounds fishy to me!

Use metric or use imperial.

Just remember there are two types of country in the world...

Those who use the metric system and those who have been to the moon.

and everything we did was in metric. One of the Mars missions a few years ago failed because some contractor used the idiot system we use and the probes crashed into the surface at high speed. All scientific work any where in the world is metric. We would be with them but for anti-science, soon to be senile Raygun did away with the commission working to move us to the real world.

But it is happening- what do military people mean by "klick"? could it be kilometer?

Wed Feb 25, 2015, 10:24 PM

When on patrol, it became common practice for the one keeping track of distances covered to simply count their paces. Since the average male has a 1 meter stride, they would simply count to one hundred - ten times to cover a kilometer. A good way to keep track of which 100 you were in, was to advance the rear sight on your weapon one notch for every 100 paces counted (which coincidentally adjusted your sight for 100 meters of range). The max range on the weapon's rear sight was 1000 meters. When maxed out, the device would make a clicking sound, and you would know that you had reached your 10th cycle of counting to 100. You'd then simply reset it, and start over counting out to the next click.

Your spelling of the word "klick" was from a German ex-patriot who authored the weapon's manual spelling it incorrectly.

Now... My challenge to you... Is everything, somethings, one thing, or nothing of what I just replied with bullshit?

However you spell it click or klick it's still metric. Right now all the meds I take are measured in milligrams or micrograms except for an Omega 3 supplement which is in grams. I have "American" made vehicles which require the use of metric and SAE wrenches depending on what you are removing/replacing. It would be so much simpler if they were all metric. I guess I could buy a BMW or Honda and that would solve my wrench problem but then I probably wouldn't ever need to open my tool box unless I wanted to change the oil.

My dad grew up near the Mississippi, and he said he heard that there were catfish in there so big that divers would stay away from them.

while it is alive (story says they let it go). That fish would be thrashing about and there is no way (unless it is dead) that that man is holding onto a live catfish that size and it is not moving. The first pic in the water, the catfish would knock him silly and probably eat him.

I just don't see it, dead then YES I can see him holding onto that fish...but alive? Anyone here ever caught and reeled in a catfish? They don't just hold still, unless they are dead.

Look at the markings and coloration.

Also, look at man's hand in top photo. Does that look normal? It's bigger than his head!

It was in early 60s. Guy had channel cat in back of his station wagon. It went from wheel well to wheel well and still curled around about 2 feet.

Mom used to tell stories about helping her dad clean ones he'd caught fm same creek. Had 2x10 on back bldg & he used railroad spike to hold em up so he could skin em.

One in OP obviously dwarfs those. Wonder if it tastes as good?

I saw one about five feet long once at Cherokee lake in east tn. This guy was using a chicken on a huge hook. We were playing around on shore and all of a sudden we noticed this commotion around this boat out on the lake. One or two guys were jumping in the water it was crazy. They drove the boat in and pulled it out the boat landing all wrapped up in sky ropes. The put it on the back of a pickup and the tail was hanging over down tailgate. It was a crazy scene.

Guy saw mud cat lying along bank, thought it was dead. Measured it - 4.5' - then it took off. Bro & friend tried to corral it w/ couple of seine nets. Tore nets to shreds.
