Buffalo Creek Disaster February 26, 1972

Today is the 43rd anniversary of the collapse of a coal slurry dam in Logan County, West Virginia, that killed 125 people and left thousands homeless. The appalling contempt that the coal mine operators and the state government showed towards the survivors should be shocking, but if you are a native of the state you would know that was business as usual. Pittston Coal refused to take responsibility for the disaster, claiming it was "An act of God."
