http://www.cnn.com/2015/02/27/europe/russian-politician-killed/index.htmlRussian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov was shot four times and killed by an unknown assailant in central Moscow on Friday evening, a law enforcement agency told Russian state news agency Itar Tass.
He was deputy prime minister in the late 1990s under President Boris Yeltsin and had been one of current President Vladimir Putin's most vocal critics.
One of Nemtsov's criticisms was over the 2014 Winter Olympics held in Sochi. Nemtsov published a report in 2013 describing the Sochi games as one of the most "outrageous swindles" in recent Russian history. He claimed that up to 60% of the final cost -- or $30 billion -- had been embezzled.

Famous Russian politician Boris Nemtsov has been shot dead in the center of Moscow, according to Tass news agency.
"Boris Nemtsov was shot four times in the center of Moscow at Vasilyevsky spusk. Investigation team is working at the scene," Tass reports siting police sources.
A law enforcement source told Interfax news agency that a white vehicle approached Nemtsov, fired the shots, and rushed away.
Police have dubbed the operation to catch the killers 'Interception.'
<edit>
Russian President Vladimir Putin was immediately informed about Nemtsovs assassination, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
Putin has stressed that this brutal murder has all [the] signs of a contract murder and is extremely provocative, Peskov said.

He fought against the opening of the nuclear power plant in Nizhnigorodskii province and won, and he fought for his soldiers and made sure they were provisioned in the first Chechen war.
May his memory be eternal. вечная память
