O'Malley, who left office in January and has said he is considering a run for the White House, told reporters in an email he hoped other candidates would step up to represent the mid-Atlantic state, but "I will not be one of them."
The move allows O'Malley, 52, to keep the door open for a potential presidential campaign. He told the Associated Press last month he would decide by spring whether to seek the nomination.
Despite winning two terms as governor in the heavily Democratic State, his future is somewhat complicated by his successor's surprise loss to a Republican in the November election.

(28,749 posts)He doesn't have some of them experiences that others have, being just a governor. I do consider him a legitimate candidate and I think he is one of the few who could muster up a legitimate campaign in the primary.

(19,567 posts)There was lots of talk about him not running now after Brown's loss, which had me discouraged. Looks like his sail may be catching wind again.

(28,749 posts)O'Malley could easily be that person for some. For me I think it's really important that we have a contested primary, and if he can make that happen. I am on board with that.

(31,879 posts)Does he have an exploratory committee yet that you've found anywhere?
I gave to Webbs last week- i would give to O'Malley's.

(28,749 posts)I'm actually pretty open still to whomever runs. I just want to make sure that people actually DO run, and that this is a primary election.

(19,567 posts)How's that for a campaign slogan?
He's not perfect, and he's said and done a couple of things which need explaining further, but he's not the worst either. He's never held a national office, which goes both for and against him. It detracts from his experience, but also doesn't sully his record with votes which can be used against him. He did raise taxes on the wealthy in the state and on corporations, which could be seen as a real plus in his campaign. He has some credibility when it comes to climate change and greenhouse gases, too.
I guess mostly I'm in the column of needing a contested primary as well. He's has potential to be a candidate who could get some supporters behind him on issues, even if he's not the worlds most charismatic person.

(31,879 posts)And positions - he's almost a perfect candidate.
And against Paul - he's got a very long history of criminal justice reform. He's the only one that has me interested and ready to knock on doors - and in the NJ 7th I can talk to moderate Republicans about him. I've also had two Len towards IndieTeaPublicans who are Paul supporters say they are only afraid of Hillary (money) and Webb (consistent and puts his shit out there). That's interesting.
I'm going to support O'Malley though. See how his PAC is taking donations.
2008 my early support was Biden and Edwards. Edwards - we all know what happened there.
But just as in 2004 - my two i found closlely aligned to what matters to me -one of them ended up VP pick.
