Excellent News Regarding Ringling Bros. Circus Elelephants!

It's still atrocious it hasn't happened sooner, will take until 2018 and they will still use other animals.

Our children were never allowed to attend circuses and never wanted to when they understood that animals are not to be exploited, abused, caged and forced to perform for "entertainment" purposes.

That is not entertainment; it's horrible abuse and if you attend circuses with animals you are supporting it.

The CEO's statement is BS...I believe they finally caved into the pressure. Good! I protested against them in Atlanta years ago before we had any kids.

POLK CITY, Florida -- The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is ending its iconic elephant acts.

The circus' parent company, Feld Entertainment, told The Associated Press that the acts will be phased out by 2018. Growing public concern about how the animals are treated led to the decision.

Feld's 43 elephants will live at the company's 200-acre Center for Elephant Conservation in central Florida. Twenty-nine animals are already there, and the other 14 will arrive as they are phased out from the circus.

Elephant acts have been showcased by Ringling for more than a century and have often been featured in its posters.

In a statement, Kenneth Feld, Chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment said "this is the most significant change we have made since we founded the Ringling Bros. Center for Elephant Conservation in 1995. When we did so, we knew we would play a critical role in saving the endangered Asian elephant for future generations, given how few Asian elephants are left in the wild . . .This decision was not easy, but it is in the best interest of our company, our elephants and our customers."

would be really crowded. I'm sure it's better than performing for the circus, though.

Good story Riff. Thanks for posting.
