spin
(17,493 posts)that Romney is trying to buy the election. It worked in the primaries as he was able to outspend his opponents 20 times to one in order to get his negative ads on TV.
That will not work when he tries to campaign against Obama as Obama will have considerable funds to finance his campaign.
The Republicans are going to wondering once again how they could manage to such pick a loser to lead their party.
emulatorloo
(44,211 posts)They will try the same tactics against Obama they used in the Primary.
Am hoping it does not work.
spin
(17,493 posts)and it will turn many voters off and they will not show up at the polls.
It's a shame that negative ads are effective as it is one reason that many people dislike politicians.
Still I feel that Obama has an excellent chance of winning as long as the economy shows signs of improvement.

(4,490 posts)I suppose it depends on how much the Republican party can frighten them. President Obama being a black guy with a "un-American" sounding name may still help, but I already know a few who will likely stay home on election day. For some a lying french speaking Mormon is as bad as a commie foreigner who got elected as part of some kind of 51 year old Islamic/African conspiracy

Problem is, that 0.02% is a very exclusive club. Much more exclusive than that 1% club.
Makes you wonder why, after trying the Rethuglican "trickle-down" theory for the past 40 years, 90% of all the wealth has flowed to the 0.02%
Why...it's almost as if it's by design

(47,649 posts)I figured we have another candidate with Daddy issues - that went so well with GW.
I think Mitt has lived in the shadow of his bigger-than-life father and has some inner need to win the one office that George didn't.
Other than that, I can see no apparent reason for him to run. He doesn't seem to be very interested in foreign policy or domestic issues and he doesn't care enough to brush up on those issues before campaigning. It feels like, "I'm rich, I don't have to know anything. I hire people to know things."

(159 posts).....I know that it is wishful thinking but I do hope that Lil Mitts financial records are among the records that were recently released by the Swiss Banking Mafia to the US Feds for Tax evasion.....It certainly would be an eye opening experience for the electorate to wake up to a criminal investigation of a Presidential candidate......

It's even OK he takes advantage of tax loop holes.
But it's not what I would consider presidential material. (Is Mitt gonna close those loopholes he and his wife use?)
I mean, nothing the GOP has to offer is up to the challenges of the presidency. This is a huge general point. No matter who the GOP puts up for consideration, they all sux! In different mind boggling ways! Period. I guess we just get Mitt this time around.

(47,992 posts)What this means to us: Romney does not pay the full cost to us of producing his wealth, so we are expected to cut our investments in our own commonly held resources and also to make up whatever remaining difference there is out of the pockets of the 99%.
What does this money mean to the countries in which it is deposited? They could lend against it and invest it, so that taking it away and bringing it back to America, where this wealth was created by Americans, would put those countries at risk. Hence, what happens to YOU and your community is determined by FOREIGN governments.
How could this situation be affected by a PRESIDENT who has these investments?

(53,661 posts)You've hit on a crucial point I've brought up but some people have no reference point as to how we got in this mess. Your quote is part of what happened after Vietnam and during the Iraq war.
Were the US steel and auto industries so lousy they needed to be sold to Japan? We were given various reasons by media droning their failures into our heads, all of them easily disproven.
No, but they helped finance the Vietnam War. There are payments that are in currency and payments that are made in kind. That and other moves set the way for lowering wages. Do I blame the Japanese? No, not at all.
Was the rest of our manufacturing base, the ports and other resources now in the hands of the Chinese so badly managed or unprofitable that they needed to be sold off?
No, they carried the debt for the Iraq war. Cheney thought the American currency was going to become so worthless he converted his money into foreign currency while he was VP. It was reported by that windbag Kramer, as if he was amazed. Cheney knew he was hurting the value of the dollar. And the Chinese knew, too.
Why should they not be paid, why should they wait for decades for money, why should they care what happens to our communities here? Why should they not be given something in kind like Japan? Their countries were disadvantaged by lending us money for these adventures.
This is possibly another way of looking at the trade deals that were signed over the last few decades, but it may not be related. Tom Delay and pals made money from sweatshops in the Mauritanias. Other corporations in our history helped with coups, like the UFC in Guatemala. There is money in these things which suddenly become some kind of 'national interest,' but the American get only the crumbs from these deals.
Obama said that every dollar for the Iraq war was borrowed from China. IMHO, that's we now have to buy everything from them. My representatives met with us on the cost per district from the Iraq war we had to pay as our quality of life went down. This is not really a secret, it's not discussed because the media's job is to keep our eyes off the flow of these monies.
From the year 2007, Obama explains the direct effects of going to war and borrowing money for it on our communities:
Okay, there are likely gaping holes in my analysis, but that may be a tiny part of what is going on.
patrice
(47,992 posts)And, yes, that's always been one of Barack Obama's greatest assets: He's a very good teacher. And people have been HUNGRY to be invited into the authentic discourse for a very very very long time.

(47,992 posts)CANNOT bear an end to Tax Cuts and loopholes? We're supposed to believe that they are so over-a-barrel internationally that it'll destroy them and, hence, some of our foreign "friends"? So they neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed every penny to keep "us" (and, oh boy, that particular pronoun IS to laugh!!!) afloat. Or at least that's what they want us to think, so it's the President's job to figure out how much of that is a lie.
I say "Take them OFF the custom-designed tax policy heroin!!" There's a bunch of us going down, might as well have some company.
