Harrison Ford Critically Injured in Plane Crash: Report Update:He's in fair to moderate condition

Last edited Thu Mar 5, 2015, 10:40 PM - Edit history (2)

Harrison Ford is in critical condition after crash landing a plane in Venice, Calif. on Thursday, according to several reports.

The 72-year-old crash landed on Penmar golf course after something apparently went wrong with the small plane. Ford was transferred to a local hospital in critical condition. The actor was the only one aboard the plane and the only person who sustained injuries.

Ford reportedly walked away from the crash, but had sustained head injuries.

The single-engine, Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR plane clipped the top of a tree before crashing shortly before 2:30 p.m. onto the golf course, just west of the Santa Monica Municipal Airport, according to Federal Aviation Administration officials. Ford was attempting to return to the airport due to engine trouble, according to a senior federal official and audio of the crash.

"Harrison was flying a WW2 vintage plane today which had engine trouble upon take off. He had no other choice but to make an emergency landing, which he did safely. He was banged up and is in the hospital receiving medical care. The injuries sustained are not life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery," Ford's publicist said in a statement.

A small plane piloted by Harrison Ford has crash-landed at an L.A. golf course ... but we're told the actor has survived.
TMZ has learned ... Ford was piloting what appears to be a vintage 2-seater fighter plane Thursday ... when something went wrong and he crashed into Penmar golf course in Venice, CA.
We're told Ford suffered multiple gashes to his head and was bleeding. Two doctors who happened to be at the golf course rushed over to treat the actor.

He should be okay. Apparently, it's not the first time he's crashed a plane.

Given the condition of the aircraft (both cockpits relatively intact), I think he's not "critical", unless he had stress-related event, like a heart attack.

Really glad a golf course was in his glide path when he had trouble, and not a dense populated area or high tension powerlines. Really good that that grass strip was out in front of him when his plane had trouble. Never been to California, but I understand that that part of the state is densely developed.. That and/or it has jagged mountains that don't mix well with crash-landing aircraft.

Hope he recovers well.

Unfortunately, the story about Harrison Ford’s Star Wars: Episode VII-related injury is one that has gotten worse as more details have been revealed. First, it was reported that he’d suffered an ankle injury while filming, then came the news that Ford has broken his left ankle – and today, we have confirmation that the beloved actor (who turns 72 in under a month) actually broken his left leg, during the accident on the Episode VII set. On the plus side, though, we now have word that he’s already on his way to making a proper recovery.

Get well soon, Mr. Ford.
