4. Murkowski (AK)

6. Coats (IN)
7. Cochran (MS)
I hope the Cable News Channels interview these Repug Senators and grill them as to why they didn't feel that they should sign the GOP letter to Iran re: Negotiations.

I rather like that about you guys (Sarah Palin a notable exception and I will give you the one-off exception, we all have them).

(34,648 posts)Crazy right? I know. She made it her mission to "make them pay their FAIR share." Swear she did. And gave out money to every citizen from the pdf. 1200 extra socialism dollars, for heating costs. No lie. The tea party screwed everthing up.
What the hell happened to her? Because that was actually a good idea.

(34,648 posts)Got indoctrinated into the Fox News subculture. I had spoken with her once about a few things. She was nice. Then she went all 'Barack HUSSEIN OBAMA' and It was downhill from there. So sad.

(46,436 posts)I didn't vote for Sarah, but I liked her style as governor. She was quite bipartisan, and ACES helped us weather the recession when all the other states were struggling. We spoke with her, too, on Election Day in 2006, and, yes, she was nice -- and sane.
Another little known fact is she did an interview for the New Yorker in the spring of 2008 in which she expressed her admiration for Barack Obama and stated she wouldn't be too upset if he won Alaska. When she was governor, her strongest support came from independents and Democrats. The establishment Republicans despised her.
How times change.

(34,648 posts)People in the lower 48 only know the short clips of her being strange. I always wondered if she has anxiety from all of this fame.
I didn't vote for her either, but I was not upset when she won...
Until troopergate I was pretty cool with her style. And troopergate was just not that big of a deal to me at the time.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who remembers the good days.

(45,319 posts)Q: Do you support the Alaska Supreme Courts ruling that spousal benefits for state employees should be given to same-sex couples?
A: No, I believe spousal benefits are reserved for married citizens as defined in our constitution.

I am pro-life and I believe that marriage should only be between and man and a woman. I am opposed to any expansion of gambling in Alaska.
Source: Campaign website, www.palinforgovernor.com, Issues Nov 7, 2006
She compares civil and reproductive rights to gambling. In 2006, long before the RNC came calling. It's hard for LGBT people or our allies to see that sort of crap as acceptable. Just so you know. Hearing how cool she was in 06 makes me vomit.
bravenak
(34,648 posts)As in a repubilcan but not a tea party idiot. She never was good on reproductive rights or gay rights. But she wasn't completely owned back then and was capable of much more than now.
Since I never voted for her, I never looked at her website or donated my money to her.
Also, I never ever said her positions on gay rights or civil rights were acceptable so you can miss me with the bullshit. I am not your enemy and we are not in a victimization contest. If we were, I'd win hands down. I'm a black, bi, single female mother with a Hispanic name and Cherokee blood, do you really wanna go there with the blame/victimization game? I mean, we can do it, but you might end up feeling like a jerk for even starting up with me right now.

(45,319 posts)There is no 'contest'. Just me telling you that LGBT people were aware of where she stood. I'm an active Democrat and had business and family ties to Alaska at that time. Alaska is one of the 29 States in which LGBT people can be and are denied employment for being gay. Thus, the rhetoric of Alaskan politicians about LGBT people is a matter of concern for our whole community, particularly those of us who had loved ones in that State.
'06 was the last year my partner worked in AK. Things changed. For him it was not for the better. We still love Alaska and know lots of people there. But it was hard for him.

(34,648 posts)Especially when said candidate voted for Republicans all through the 80's. I was not endorsing her. Just saying that after her we got much worse in her succesor. Sean Parnell took what little bit of good she did with big oil and undid it. We pay them to drill our oil. That affects the entire state budget.
The only good that came out of his term was the supreme court overruled the anti gay marriage folks. He fought it much harder than she would have. He seemed to enjoy fucking with people. He was so bad he made her look good in comparison.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)but she is about the most sensible of the bunch. Well, Collins, she's not a dumbass, either. One of my idiots, Cochran, had better sense than to sign it, but of course the prime idiot did it for him (Wicker). I have no doubt he was agreeable to it, he just didn't want to end his term looking like a jackass (Cochran is retiring).

(9,656 posts)I do understand the impulse to, however, we must hope for more points of agreement. Building consensus and reaching compromise is how our govenment is designed to work. The current itteration of the gop doesn't do that. They seem to be working as anarchists.
I am happy to agree on this point with these senators. The others are courting treason. May God show mercy on their souls. Perhaps they may actually believe in God, as they so publicly profess ... or, perhaps not. Still, they have chosen poorly. Lisa has a deal of integrity.

(86,691 posts)he's been straight up TP from the get go, was in the House first. Our other Senator is a DINO and I hope he heads back to the farm after this round. Now that one talks a good game but I am extremely disappointed in him. He voted for KXL and a bunch of other stupid shit AND he was a co-author of the Rider - attached to an omnibus Budget - that removed wolves from the ESA protections and the language made it illegal to challenge the Rider in court. Now that is right out of the bushcheney playbook... I'll never forgive him for that. Only MONTHS after that little stunt did wolves become huntable in our state and the other RWNJ states nearby. I'm surprised that one didn't sign it.

Even if they do, democrats should educate them on how going against the President's negotiations is neither conservative nor patriotic.
