Children's health ignored, neglect complaint charges

ALBANY — The father of slain 5-year-old Kenneth White faces a neglect complaint in Albany County Family Court accusing him of ignoring his children's health while leading a life of drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness and unsavory living conditions.

Jayson White sat beside his attorney as Judge Gerard Maney read the father's detailed history aloud in open court Wednesday – including an incident in which White was allegedly passed out while his children wandered near shotgun shells and drug paraphernalia.

The body of White's son, Kenneth, was found in the snow on Dec. 18 near the trailer where the boy lived on Thacher Park Road in Knox, the victim of what police and prosecutors believe was a strangulation murder committed by the child's cousin, 20-year-old Tiffany VanAlstyne.

While she faces second-degree murder charges that could send her to prison for life, the neglect complaint against Jayson White could lead him to lose the parental rights of his other children.
