Dear Demoted Cardinal Burke,
I write to you as a feminist who has seen the light. I realize now that the long fight for gender equality is the direct cause of a few bad apple priests defiling young boys and also the reason the Catholic Church covered up and protected the men who were merely the victims of a feminized, fluffy agenda. I see now that pedophile priests have absolutely nothing to do with an outdated patriarchal mindset where a man is considered more important than a woman and, it seems, more important than children. Its all the fault of feminists. Everything bad in the entire world is the fault of feminists.
I get it.
Penis GOOD!!
Vagina BAD!!
And if you believe that, I have a cart of steaming horsehit Id like to sell you for $10 million.
Wow, Mr. Demoted Cardinal!!!
Your criticism of feminism REALLY trumps the usual drivel we hear from knuckle-dragging Neanderthals like you. You know, the sexist fear-mongers who desperately but inaccurately tie abortion to natural disasters and whatnot.
You have taken misogyny and slut shaming to an entirely new level when you claimed that forces of radical feminism have brought the once-mighty church to its knees, led to a fluffy, feminized view of sexuality and made way for generations of pedophile priests.

(1,827 posts)the Cardinal seems to be making the following connection:
1. Feminism (2nd and 3rd wave) have led to a sexually permissive culture.
(That's actually true if you relabel "sexually permissive" as "sexually free". He could have added the pill here as well.)
2. A sexually permissive (free) culture results in the questioning of traditional sexual morality, blurring boundaries between what is acceptable and what isn't.
(This is also true. When I was a kid, sex outside of marriage was considered wrong. It is not considered normal, and you're abnormal if you're not doing it.)
3. The church itself, prodded by feminism and the sexual revolution, also found itself questioning its own doctrine.
(Also true. For example, although Pope Paul VI condemned and declared medical birth control a sin in 1964, many parish priests would tell married people to follow their own consciences in regard to its use. The Church in recent decades has also acknowledged the existence of inborn homosexuality, although they command GLBT to be chaste (no sex). And finally, there are nuns who deal with poor women in the inner city who are trying to get the Vatican to lift its total ban on abortion. They show up in the crowd when the Pope visits the US.)
Now, here is where Burke goes wrong: he believes that this questioning somehow led people to become pedophiles, and that doesn't quite make sense. Church doctrine has never questioned the immorality of raping children. Premarital sex, contraception, and homosexuality, on the other hand, have caused Church doctrines to be questioned.
A more logical letter to Cardinal Burke along these lines would have been far better than just screaming at him.
